Hi all.
New to the forums and a new Ve SS Thunder ute owner.
I just recently put on a 3 inch stainless steel exhaust system and loving the sound. I also have a VCM OTR waiting to go on aswell but it unfortunately voids my warranty.
The warranty is for 3 years and i have a BAD itch to start modding the ute before then. 3 years? I dont know if i can wait that long to do some work to it.
I guess by posting this i am pretty much looking to here/ get some advice from people who have a new holden an have started modding it or from people who have decided to wait the 3 years.
If you own VEII personally I would not touch it until after the warranty period. I am sure they would look for any reason to knock you back. Even when you have no mods they are hard to deal with.
Mate, was going to have the same issue, I ended up purchasing a walkinshaw exhaust instead which keeps the warranty for the 3 years.
Did you have to wait long for your ute? I have been waiting 14 weeks, picking it up on the 24th.
Yeah i Got the same problem, i cant wait to mod.
But, im gonna wait till the warranty finishes, they will
try anything to knock you back if you have a claim.
Cant be bothered with the headaches in an unlikely
Scenario if it were to happen.
(plus more time to plan hehe)

Yea i know what you mean. I just keep thinking to myself, screw the warranty lets just start working it, but then i have the second thoughts, WHAT IF somthing went majorly wrong and i had changed up a bunch of stuff. There goes my warranty, Id be kicking myself.
I convinced myself that the cat back system would keep me happy for a while but as we all know once you get the itch its hard not to scratch it. haha. I do have my doubts on how long i will last though.
mkeman- I had to wait about 6 weeks for the ute but that was by request. Im guessing i could have had it in the shed within 3 weeks if i wanted to..
14 weeks bet your going crazy to get it. Haha.
My understanding from various other threads on these forums, is that replacing parts with aftermarket only affects the warranty on those original parts, and the new parts would be covered by their own manufacturer's warranty. The Holden new car warranty should still cover all the other factory components.
+1 to that. Unless the mods you have made actually cause problems elsewhere. Then whatever problem your mods caused will also not have warranty. Any part of the car not affected by your mods will be fine though.
If you change the exhaust, it have to actually cause a problem with the engine before it would affect the warranty for that engine.
But then again, if you dump the clutch too hard one day and spit the diff out... they may have some kind of comeback on you because your car was 5kw more powerful than standard? Its a long bow but they may try to draw it...
but the problem with an otr ... is that they affect everything in the induction side of the engine ... in theory you could blow a motor and holden could knock it back because the air was not being inducted and everything the way it was manufactured to be ... i know the otr may have a better filter and everything ... but all holden look for is an excuse to get out of fixing it ...
that said my car is 1 year old and i have modified the crap out of it ... including a tune and clutch ... which renders the whole engine and drivline void of waranty
yea im still not sure if im going to wait or not... I think the question really is how long will i last. haha.
The question is can you afford to fix/replace any problems that may arise.
Check out hexems dilemma.
