Default SV6 with SS Mufflers Rattle and Vibration

    Hi,

Just a quick question, i couldn't see this extant question already.
I fitted SS mufflers to my car after i drove about 400k's they started to rattle/vibrate. but if you put your hand on the tips (when cold of course) they stop immediately. no real nose, they just vibrate and look ridiculous! it's a pretty aggressive vibration, I'm kinda concerned it could put stress on other parts over time if i don't sort it out.

I've taken them off, put them back on, everything is nice and tight. the stock ones never did this.

But when the car is started after being off for a few hours, they run normal for about 30 secs - then they go into a physio vibration.

I can post pictures of how the brackets sit if needed, from the mufflers, and where they split.

I'm not sure what else to try other. maybe new new rubber mounts/brackets?

    Thanks for any help

I was first going to say, what condtion are the rubbers in. Is your car a sedan? I know the ute mufflers exit a little different to sedan and wagons, coz of the back bumper being straight. How do the tips look at the back? You didnt lose the gaskets between the mufflers and the exhaust did you?

it's a sedan. the rubbers look fine really. the tips sit centered in the rear diffuser, they're not off centre or anything they just vibrate when its running. Nah i didn't lose the gaskets, they are still there. but they are the originals. traveled a bit over 32k. worth looking into a replacement?

Check the rivets holding the tips onto the exhaust itself. They've had a habit of coming loose before. Which would cause your rattle.

Are you sure it's just not the small amount of drone you get with these? I have the same setup and mine drone a bit but not vibrate. Mine also blow some smoke when the pedal goes to the metal too.

hardly any noise, they are sill restrictive stock mufflers. I'll post a video shortly of exactly how bad they vibrate. in the mean time i'll check those rivets.

Mate I got the same problem, I have hsv's on and does the same thing. As mention above the rivits come loose and would have to be drilled and redone. Or just drill a small pilot hole and
ram a tech screw in it would do the trick

maybe im looking in the wrong spot. i cant see any rivets. mine are welded from the tips to the exhaust itself. is this right?

I wouldn't know but i know mine are riveted, there's about for holes around each tip and when i go to take a look i move the tip around and it is loose for me and idling is when you hear the rattle/vibration goes away once i step on the accelerator.
