Default Just got VE SS tuned. Is this a typical result?

    Hi guys,

Im just interested to know, and i understand that there are many variables, but i just got my manual 09 VE SS Sportwagon tuned and got 255kw and 780Nm of torque. Mods include VCM OTR, 1 3/4" ceramic coated Hurricane extractors and cats and 2.5" Hi Tech exhaust. Did anyone out there with the same mods get a similar result? The tune was done by Dave at Silverwater Automotive; ive had him tune some pretty serious cars of mine before, and found his work to be extremely good.

    Cheers,

    Shaun.

hey man that seems a little low to me considering most of the 6.0L that are getting echaust and tune are making around 250 ... do you know what it was before they tuned it?
i know i have a sidi v6 and with the same mods i went from 155 to 183 ... that isnt bad for a 6 but from an 8 i would have expected more

I have the same wagon but in auto, and had same mods as you but 3" full difillipo and Im making 271kw. so 255 does seem a tad low, but u do have a 2.5" exhaust.

Numbers mean nothing. Different dyno's will yield different results. What brand dyno is.it? The only numbers that matter are the 1/4 mile times. That will show you the real world gains.

    +1 quarter mile.

Guy i know has the same setup as you. Albeit different brands... his tune was only getting 253 at the rear wheels so roughly same as yours.

BUT... his car goes like sh*t of a shovel, so i doubt the figures are overly accurate...

    254 from an 06 auto.

I thought manual was 10kw or so higher but series 2 engines were down a little bit on the series 1?

Seems about right for the mods, but what you havent mentioned is whether its maf or mafless tuned. like everyone else has said dyno numbers mean jack, as long as your happy with how the car drives & responds then thats all that matters.

Isn't 780 Nm Torque pretty good??? That seems high to me for 255kw. In comparison the LS7 7litre is rated at 377Killa wasps and 640Nm torque.........

Yeah no offence but 780 is way too high for 255rwkw, I dont beleive it, not sure whether its a typo or faulty dyno reading...
anyway its not the dyno figure that matters, I have 250rwkw and have run 13.0 @ 112mph and Im not even a good drag racer!

Yeah, it's a 2.5 inch exhaust and I retained the maf. Dyno dynamics dyno. I know numbers mean shit, I was just interested to know what people thought. It's really nice to drive now; that's all I care about.
I spent about 30 grand on an RB26 engine and got 350rwkw and 770Nm and it was so hard to drive compared to the VE and I've only spent 10% of that on this one. No substitute for capacity.

I'm an idiot. 780 was a typo. I meant 580Nm of torque. I'm using my iPhone and ####ed up. Sorry for the confusion. The skyline also had 570Nm not 770. for some reason I had 7 stuck in my head instead of 5.

Well in that case everything seems to be in order, and like several other guys have said, figures mean little unless they are quarter mile times...
The funniest thing is there were half a dozen blokes telling you the figures seemed about right!!!!! So I guess they either only read kilowatts, and care little about Torque or they expect 780 Nm from 255Kw I have a KPM OTR, KPM 2.5" cat back and and an Oztrack Mafless tune(but the Maf is still in place) I don't know what it is putting out, but I can tell you that it feels like it has a lot more Torque down low, and that's where you are driving most of the time...

I had my ss tuned by OZTRACK and made 270.08rwk. Mods i have are 3" x-force exhaust, outlaw 3" cats, Pacemaker 1 7/8 headers ceramic coated and growler CAI (not even OTR) I would have to recomend the work done by steve at OZTRACK to anyone.

well yes I didn't think of that, the possibility of you all thinking it was a typo, but not mentioning it, as it was obvious.

its all numbers 240, 250, 260 , 270, 280 rwkw bolt ons only bla bla bla woopty dooo...

I have a relatively low dyno sheet and get heaps of ppl saying thats low or u need a new tume but Mr 1/4 Mile says im on the money..
    238rwkw bolt-on only ve ss manual - 1/4 mile = 12.8 @ 109mph

and been at calder on the 17th i seen ve ss's with 275rwkw bolt ons struggle to make 13 flat.. soo its all just numbers.

If there where Governing body which was able to determine the correct dyno figures i think we'd see a few "tuners" shut their doors..
i mean the difference between some shops is just mind blowing.. and sickening in a way..

As everone has said, dyno reading mean nothing. My VX V6 apparently achieved 150rwkw with nothing more than some 1.98:1 rockers, a bigger TB, extractors and exhaust, and a tune, ummmm, yeah right.

By saying “with nothing more than” some 1.98:1 rockers, a bigger TB, extractors and exhaust, and a tune, are you saying you were expecting less?
