OK so I changed the suspension in my sv6 to king springs and ultima shocks. I've noticed a knocking sound coming from both front wheels since I've changed them over. Anyone who has lowered their cars (and I know theres plenty of you out there) have you experienced this?
If so was it just a matter of replacing the rubber bits between the shock and spring or is the knocking coming from the top of the strut? Any help would be great as I don't want to take it all apart to find the problem, put it back together to get whatever I need to fix it then do it all over again...
Thanks in advance
Are the spring wraps on? If not, it could just be the coils making contact with each other.
Alternatively, there's a number of bushes that could be the cause - or even faulty shocks.
was the knocking there straight away or did it come after.
if straight away did you put the top spring seat in the right place? they are timed and have to go in a certain position.
if the spring plate is not in the right place it can foul on the strut body causing a noise.
also check that your sway bar link is tight.
Thanks for the response guys. Im not sure exactly what you mean about the spring seat? Is that the rubber sleeve on part of the coil? Im pretty sure the knocking started straight away, I just put it down to them adjusting and moving a bit. But now ive done about 1000 kms its still going
I think where he said 'timed' he means it has to be lined up at say the 3 oclock position so the end on the spring sits in the groove in the spring seat. I'd suggest its a good idea to always replace your rubber strut tops when you change springs and shocks as the original ones don't last too long, especially with lowered and stiffer setup.
