have a new SV6 Sports wagon with buttons for GPS, but no unit installed. Holden say it is a factory fit only.
has anyone any ideas if it can still be fitted?
Cheers
Nev
Yeah, it can be retro fitted. There is a fair bit involved though.
I can find out exactly what is required if you really want to, but if you get the parts from Holden, it is going to be a very expensive exercise.
I think from memory you will be looking at around 2K and upwards for all the parts needed
Garmin make a unit that fits directly into the iQ system, full use of steering wheel and dash mounted buttons.
I think they are around $1200.00 plus install. You can do it your self, plugs into a slot behind the centre console drivers side. See iPad install for location of socket.
good luck with that

I'll look into it for you, I was in Brisbane a month ago talking to Zupps Holden because Suttons is Sydney couldn't get me a car quick enough. I wanted GPS fitted. Zupps told me about the aftermarket unit and it was around $1200, I didn't see the point as Holden would put one in at factory for $990 which I got of the price of my car. Was originally purchasing a SV6, long story short ended up in an SSV for a bit extra. I'll post it up tomorrow at sone point.

Hi,
Is anyone able to tell me how to check whether the GPS hardware is installed ot not?
When I was picking up my VE II SV6, the saleman tried to talk me into GPS for the discounted price of $850 - this being initiated by the salesman with no suggestion from me. Based on indicative costs, this seems very unlikely, unless that hardware was already installed.
I chased up the Garmin unit, it should be a CVN53, but their web only has American prices.
Went to local Autobarn who are Garmin distributors, and they had not heard of it. So they made a call to Garmin confirmed there was a unit, but not what model or whether there were Aussie wiring harness or not, as Tech was unavailable.
has anyone actually got one fitted?
There must be a certain amount of GPS gear in the SV6 if this unit will work from installed buttons.
Im in a local audio store tomorrow, ill ask the guys there if they know what it is.

All good info guys, the thread above is dated a few years ago and refers to the older VE screens and not the IQ. But it shows that it is indeed possible to do. I think it's going to be a long night reading
Thanks to dmeacey & NevC for getting the info

"Yeah, it can be retro fitted. There is a fair bit involved though."
What does this mean? Like pulling dash apart or just getting bits?
From what I am finding out about the Garmin, its not as big a job as an original seems to be.
Friends of friends have Garmins installed, but not on current spec cars.
Waiting on more info this week.

This is the Garmin Technical Support answer!!! A great help, gives you a lot of confidence to purchase a product from them.
Thank you for contacting Garmin Australasia Support
Are you about to purchase from Autobarn because if you do, they should be able to install it to your car and if that does not work, get your money back.

Thats not a current model though. Drive to highlighted route is same as Ford Territory one that I had. It only took you to start or near road you wanted.
It was good in metro, but no good in country or towns. Hope new version is better.

Why do Holden sell a car without the option fitted but with the Nav option on the wheel? Shouldn't it be the Mute button on the wheel when the GPS isn't fitted?
I agree. Added to that the MAP & NAV buttons on the main unit. Why 2 for essentially the same function.
3 Buttons to tell me the feature is unavailable. Plus holden say it can't be installed after factory ;( 3 buttons to say you're a cheep ar.. aren't you. Not very friendly.
They should be customisable.
I.E. how about a now playing button, some menus have this but in the phone menus you don't. Once you in the phone and you want to cancel, you have 2 options, via wheel you have to cycle through the audio back to your source. I.E. virtual cd stacker, goes AM radio then FM, CD, USB/iPod, Blue-tooth then finally back to the virtual CD stacker. Thankfully for CD and USB/iPod if no device/disk then these are skipped, still rather annoying.
or via main console buttons, simply hitting the MEDIA button takes you to the currently active media source if media is not radio, same as radio. Better but still not efficient.
There is a mute on the wheel. press the volume will mute the audio, plus pause media source if possible.
This may be of interest to a Series 1 owner.

Our SSV has the IQ Sat NAV. Personally I think its crap. If I new it was as bad is it is I would have told them to stick the sat nav. It's so bad we still use our TomTom in the SSV.
Save your money. Dont bother with the IQ sat nav its junk.

Why is it junk?
My Territory one I considered junk as it said "Navigation will start when you join the highlighted route". As I live in the country, I often needed a GPS to get to the highlighted route. It only took you to the main highway or start of road, not actual address. It seemed better in capitol cities, but not even country towns were navigable with confidence.
Is this what you mean?
It also had a remote for input which was slow, and had a speed lock so it could not be used moving.
No Limits in Melbourne can install a series II factory GPS.

My IQ was updated at 3000km and now sometimes it takes an age to pick up the cars current location. But now it has alphabet in iPod and phone book which is great
