I drove the rest of the block home turned the car off and back on again and now the engine warning light comes on.

Controlled area network bus fault, something is chained to another and another, so if one thing faults it won't talk to the next control module an the next, leave ur battery terminal (-) dis connected for 10, minutes see If that changes anything

Ok I took my cai off and dried it and the air flow sensor put it back on, disconnected the battery for 10 mins or so and is all good.
I'll tell you what, I wont be hitting puddles for fun any more.

You have to be doing some pretty stupid stuff to get water into your intake. even pulled apart a mate's ORRSM OTR CAI on his VE Clubby after pointing a hose at the front of the car to check how it held up and it was dry. So by "fun" what the hell are you referring to? JESUS!

Not true. If a module dies the remaining modules can still communicate with each other, just not with the dead module. The only way to completely disable the canbus is to short it to power, ground or itself.
