They tend to drink alot but check o2 sensors could cause more fuel consumtion. How many ks has it done

+1. Apparently if the O2 sensor is faulty, the ECU will cause upto 40% more fuel to be consumed to avoid damage possibly caused by leaning out.

I think you need to look at your driving style for your conditions. Oxy sensors do play a role but not that much. Smooth driving is the key. Lighten up on your right foot and you'll notice a difference. Its a heavy car that needs a whoof to get it going but you don't need to be the pack leader all the time.
Around 13ltr/100K's is the average consumption in traffic.

All that said doesn't mean everything mechanically is working properly and could be contributing some-what. Make sure your service and tune is up to date and your tyres are inflated, etc.

as already said, something not right... that's very low fuel economy.
depending on how you drive, should be almost double that.

If it is doing that, you would easily be able to smell the excess fuel. It would probably backfire like crazy too.

Since he hasn't mentioned it, I'd look elsewhere.....

I have a Sv6 sidi and do a mixture of highway 80kmph driving and 60kmph town driving and my fuel light has just come on at 780kms travelled at 8.9l per 100kms. Id say something is not right with your car at all!!

Johnny_boi, those figures are bad if you drive as described. I have really improved my 70K 3.6 Alloytec consumption by doing the following...... maybe you could try some of these steps.

    1) Reset the fuel measurement system (don't know how, but had it done on mine)
    2) Tyre Pressures increased from 36 to 40 psi (20" tyres)
    3) Wheel alignment
    4) Replaced air cleaner element with new holden one & then went for a K & N panel
    5) Changed to 98 RON BP Ultimate Fuel
    6) Cleaned throttle body

Even at this point I still had fuel consumption of 14.9 l/100km while driving like a grandad around town & a really poor throttle response. If I accelerated I would get little or no response at first, then with a tiny bit more throttle the thing was way too fired up & resulted in it being impossible to drive smoothly.

    7) So then I replaced the old Bosch spark plugs with NGK LTR6A-11 or LTR6AP-11. I am pretty sure it was the first number although the AP-11's are listed also for the Alloytech V6

Well to the results.... Much smoother idle - Can't believe the smooth throttle response - Car is sooooo much nicer to drive - and the clincher for me was the 14.9 figure dropped immediately to 13.2 within the first 33kms of my first tank of gas with an average speed of 31.2 kph.

The range figure on the dash has never read over 510 kms, when driving around town, ever since I've had it but now reads 650 kms.

Finally a decent result & although the plugs have only been in for a few days things look promising.

The downside to changing plugs is the need to remove the intake manifold or part thereof (upper) I think. I was going to do this myself but thought better of it. So it was quite a costly excercise. My VE being an 06 Series 1 car, meant I had to replace the shitty paper manifold gaskets with the aliminium ones @ $130. Add the cost of spark plugs plus I paid $60 labour to have the job done. Hopefully it will pay for itself over time.

    Hope this helps

I just finished with my first full fill up on my car and got 416km/s out of the tank. With an average of 14.01L/100k.
This was mainly town driving with about 80kms of highway driving. I used Vortex 98 to fill up and was a mix of average driving like a granny and the usual young person driving.
So overall, I think I'm pretty happy with it, considering that tank lasted me just over a week. Probably would have lasted longer if my holidays didn't start 4 days ago, would have done less driving because I would have been at work

where do you fill up in nowra? maybe the fuel is not the best. i go there every day and get ~9.5l/100 and mines got 180K km on the clock so a bit worn but I do the highway from the gong and back everyday so it not just a flat straight run but I get at least 750km from a tank. I would be freaking out with that economy as its bad enough spending $130 a week on fuel. i stay away from the all e10 and 91ron unleaded and absolutely stay away from the cheap ethanol place on kinghorne up near the trevi as these all give me poor fuel economy no matter how heavy my right foot is.

na i fill up at caltex in southy i filled up with vortex98 today and reset my trip so we will see how this tank goes. If theres no difference i will try changing (sparks plugs, 02sensors, fillters ect.) and check my wheel alginment and tyre pressures. Womble66 what modle is yours is it sidi cause thats heaps good fuel range even no your doing mainly highway driving will have to take it on a trip to sydney and back soon to see how it goes on he highway. I will let you no how it goes after this tank and like i said if it makes no differnce i will change sum stuff. I got told that if you disconoct your battery and leave it over night your comp will reset by it self.

We have a SV6 with around 116,000k`s I get about 9.8-10.0L/100 round town.

We`ve also just gotten back from our week up at Surfers.Car fully loaded 2 Adults,1 kid, boot zero room,Roof box that takes up whole roof and we still managed to average 9.2L

Should also add we only fill up with plain unleaded or the Bio fuel .Tank range round town in 560-580 depending how hard I go.I used a couple tanks of 95ron when we first got it and it made no noticable diffrent driving.Even towing our loaded enclosed motobike trailer no pinging but fuel usage does go up to 12-12.5L
