Default Cutting ute mufflers for sedan.

Hey. Got a Ve v and have put an ssv system on it, wanted a fraction more noise, my mate sold his ss ute and had after market mufflers on it, however they will stick out alot if not cut down,

Just wondering the best way to cut them down n lookjg nice, or is it an exhaust shop job??

Angle grinder, welder and a can of paint. Getting them straight and your welding skills will determine whether they look good or not.

I was thinking they had tips, therefore requiring a piece to be cut out and then rewelded. Paint to make it look pretty.

I would get tips anyway, then it doesn't matter so much about getting the cuts right as long as the tips were welded on straight.

I'm not too worried about the cut n don't wanna spend money getting tips it will look fine like it is, but im wondering if the best option is to use a drop saw and just cut them straight instead of angled?

Anyone had advice on fitting? I want these done today and exhaust shops want 80+ for the job and I can't justify 4 cuts for 80$

They didn't fit ( it was hitting the inner side if the defuser, he said the only way to make them fit was cut the bend n shorten it and re weld it, $300 later, so I walked out n said don't worry about it.

You pay decent money for a good car, want it louder, but you want to cut every corner that you can. No offense but stop being a cheapskate. If you want something done right, do it properly. If they want 300 or that and you got it for nothing that's still cheap. Did you ask them if there was any cheaper options with new mufflers or pipes etc?

Go easy. He's paid good money for his car already, and wants to save money where he can. Sorry, but I'm also guilty for trying to find cheaper options.

    EDIT

But not just straight cutting off exhausts. Personally don't think it would look real nice.

Surely you could have saved some hassle and unbolted your stock mufflers to see where the aftermarker mufflers were hitting. Would have saved yourself alot of time and effort.

I was thinking same thing, 2 bolts and like 3min to take off stock one and compare it perfectly.... even if just to see where to cut them with angle grinder.
You 'might' have been able to make it ok with tips cut straight off, but getting tips would make it look so much better.
I understand cheap, but there's cheap and there's povo. For less than $100 to get it done right by professionals would've been reasonable to me.
But if they dont fit, they dont fit.

I think your best bet would be sell the ute mufflers and pick up some second hand sedan mufflers should only cost you $100 or so.
