Hi all, have fitted a towbar to a standard ve sportwagon series 2 but dont know where the wires go. there is a box/module of some sort, a ground cable with another plug coming off it, and another two large plugs. sorry for my lack of electrical lingo.
Is it a genuine towbar?

I don't know where to start with an answer for this question.
Didn't you get instructions with the bar? These are handy for the self-installer.
Basically, you have take the whole cargo floor, spare wheel, right side cargo area garnish and partially remove the left side too.
The black box connects into a loom plug under the right side garnish. It then gets stuck to the sheet metal. The harness is layed into the spare wheel tub and you drill a hole to exit to the rear on the right side of the wheel tub. Its not too far from the top (you need diagram).
It then runs down behind the bar and then does a U turn to position the 12 pin connector on the right side next to the bar hitch receiver.
The long earth wire goes from the black box all the way across to the battery side underneath the black plastic moulding and connects to the body where there is already another earth wire connected.
Make sure your fuse is NOT fitted for trailer connection when you are doing all this. The fuse is the last thing you fit!
I'm sure you could find the installation instruction on the web somewhere. This would be the go for you.
Be careful removing the cargo area floor and garnish. Its delicate and can break very easily.

You can access the connector on the rhs through the removable panel rather than removing the whole trim and then loosen the rear section to pass the harness through. I never remove the spare either![]()
