hey all,
i am the second owner of my VE SSV sedan,
i noticed that the rear badge is flaking the chrome off it slightly and want to replace it,
but lo and behold, it was a second hand badge jobby and has been superglued onto the car by the dealer some time back.
anyone removed a badge from their car which has been superglued on before?
have heard of nail polish remover \ acetone but i believe that will also harm the clear coat of my paint.
EDIT- chased up the dealer and spoke to their "Badge Guy" who said its a cheap superglue and is easily removable with "Wurth Adhesive remover"
anyone used this before?
really cant believe the dealer was skimpy enough to use a secondhand badge instead of a new one for $35 bucks.
they will scrimp and save every cent if given the chance.
grrrrr, peeved about this but hopefully there is a solution that wont harm the paintwork (more than what the superglue may have already done)
tips and thoughts appreciated,
Timmo
IMO the paint will flake, only thing I would try is maybe a heat gun, heat it up, and then fishing wire and cut the glue, anything else I believe will cause more damage then a bit jf flaking on the badge
That's a tough call. Methanol will soften Cyanoacrylate (Superglue), but it will possibly mark your vehicle finish as well if used too much.

fishing line won't work on superglue as there is no give in the adhesive. You'll need to chemically soften it - try prepsol.

You sure it was the dealer and not some peeved previous owner??? I have lost 3 "V" Badges and 2 SS badges over the 2 SSV's I had. Got quite annoying in the end :/. I'd look at the wurth stuff and maybe try it in a small amount. The destructions might indicate if it's bad for paint or not.
Reaper.
try nail polish remover. im not sure what it will do to the paint but i know it softens up super glue.
The main component of nail polish remover is acetone, so do NOT use this on your paint. Check out other suggestions above, but don't use Acetone or anything that contains Acetone or you will be looking at a paint bill.
well i went back to the dealer and waved the contract in the business managers face.
and said "supply brand new rear boot badge" is not "supergluing a flaky second hand one"
they are putting me up for a bootlid respray at their cost if prepsol doesnt get it off safely, or the wurth product.
