check engine light on (engine symbol with lightning bolt) VE SS 2007
need to know what this is for, have VCM OTR (maff type) clubsport headers and cats, straight thru pipes (no rear resinators)
just did return trip from Brisbane to Bathurst car went well 9.6ltres/100klm average, run 98 ron fuel, wife has just filled up with fuel from matilda (98ron E10)
could this be it??? I work away and it is the weekend so need help quickly
Did you just install the OTR and exhaust?
Is this it?
otr has been in for three or so months and the exhaust for 6 months
Has the car been tuned? my guess would be that putting E10 in has placed the fuel map outside of its range. Causing it to run slightly lean.
Have you recently oiled your filter in your OTR? some might be on the MAF, in which case you will need some electronic contact cleaner to get to off.
Or the O2 sensors have oil on them and need cleaning also.
My first thing would be get 98 into your car and see what happens
Is this it?
Have you had it tuned at all?
havent had it tuned yet, the premium E10 is supposedly the 98RON (same as the bp caltex except with 10% ethanol) no haven't oiled filter since put in, was going to clean the filter this week once i got home (working away) oil on O2 sensors? have my suspicians it could be them but!! will get it tuned this week and have this issue sorted at the same time, still would like to know what gremlim has raised its head
MAF needs to be cleaned periodically when you have a CAI, yes. Apparently easy to do, with appropriate cleaning product at car shops.
I have a problem with my VE too. Every time I turn on the car on it beeps signaling the ESP is off, the check engine light comes on and stays on and flashes the engine with the lightening bolt on the little LCD screen.
When I am driving along and take my foot off the accelerator (without pressing the brake) and the car slows down the ESP flashes that it is off and beep beep beep. It keeps flashing until I accelerate, it switches back on until the next 2km my speed drops from the level speed. EVERY round a bout, EVERY set of lights, EVERY hill and EVERY f*cking car in front I have to slow down for.
I have had this problem for a while now. When it began I had no CAI, no lowering and no extractors. These are the common problems people attribute to the cause of this. Nothing wrong with my MAF or connectors and they both clean.
Had it to a shop, they cleared the fault and code was "undefined fault". The clearing stopped the engine light showing up until i reversed 2m backwards, hit the brakes and on came the light again and beep beep beep!

I would seriously urge anyone with these sort of problems to get an ODBII scanner (ELM) from eBay.
They cost around $20 to $30 bucks, and there is free software out there to read codes, and clear them yourself.
On top of this, there is heaps of information out there for what the codes mean.
For the VE, there is detailed information for scan codes here, as well as what they mean, and what could be the cause.
www.carmodder.com • Search Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Asking these sort of questions, without scan / fault codes is serious needle in a haystack type stuff.
These modern engine management systems are complicated beasts, with many sensors, peripherals, complicated BUS systems, and multiple modules that all have to be working 100% for things to be working just right.
Add to this that some people are throwing modifications in the mix, as well as other things like engine / transmission /drive line degradation, various states of tune, service history, and even something as simple as Battery condition can all have contributing factors as to why the check engine / ABS / Traction Control errors can occur.
I am sitting in the Holden dealership now waiting for them so check my car. I am watching 3 service staff standing around laughing and wondering why I dropped off at 9:05 and I have to wait until 3pm to get my car back because apparently it takes a few hours to plug their computer in and press a few buttons. Also $150 will also be debited out of my wallet and into their lazy hands for this wonderful all day service.
If they give me some obscene repair cost I will go off
I looked at your nominated scanners zerone, they didnt say they are compatible with Holden. I would much rather spend $25 over $150 any day.
Holden are charging me $150 just for a diagnostic to tell me that there is nothing they can do and the fault lies with the CAI on the car. I got into a massive argument with them over this, the CAI was fitted AFTER the problem arose. So at the end of the day I am no closer to a fix and down $150.
Sorry, I mispelled OBDII Previously
(Mild dislexia, plus Im a programmer by trade, and keep getting odbc and obd mixed up)....
Anyway OBDII is a standard, which is supported by any late model vehicle.
Japanese vehicles have supported it since 2000,
Euro cars for much longer.
GM started supporting it around 1998 (Holden VT and onwards support it)
Ford have been supporting it since 2001 (AU supported OBDI, then the BA onwards supported OBDII)
So ANY OBDII Scanner (Search for USB ELM OBDII scanner on eBay) will work.
I have one at home, and it has paid for itself many times over, not just on my Calais, but on my familys and neighbours cars as well.
After the long and arduous day I have had arguing with Holden over my car. They are implying the problem with my car is over the CAI installed, I repeated over and over the ESP problem was there months before the CAI was installed. All in all after hours of back and forth he said "don't worry just get a mafless tune".
I am over this problem and it's incessant beeping. I will pay for the friggen tune. I rang Hi torque but those places only do 8cyls. I am looking for a place in Brisbane that does tunes on a V6. Anyone know of any?
Thanks for the hijack on the thread (no just kidding) all the info has been great from all, had the faults cleared today (lean bank 1 and lean bank 2) would you believe even the service dept said to get it tuned if I'm going to run the OTR, will stop alot of nuisance faults/codes mainly due to the extra air getting in etc, they said it probably had a hissy fit and spat a code, another tuner said this was possible, have spoken to hi torque to arrange for tune to be done, Z3RO with the 6 should try MACE I beleive they are having good results with them

Put the standard intake on and go back to the dealer say its still faulting and I want my $150 worth from last time it was in.

Just ordered a OBDII scanner out of China for the vast sum of $12.09. Had an ESP and ABS fault for a while, when it first came up, took it to Holden, they cleared the fault but couldn't identify what was causing it. Kinda suspected that they were waiting for the warranty ran out before they miraculously discovered the fault. I'll give this thing a go and see what it spits out at me.
Heres the ebay link...
V1.4 ELM327 OBD2 OBDII CAN-BUS Diagnostic Scanner USB | eBay
If the issue was reported prior to warranty running out and wasnt fixed, its still covered beyond the warranty.

Thanks Ricey, the problem was it was only an intermittent fault with the ESP at the time, took it back to them 3 or 4 times and they couldn't do anything. By the time the ABS fault came into it it was about 1 year out of warranty. Just couldn't be bothered going back to them now.
remove ur battery cables to reset the warning for 5 mins then see if the warning reappears if so take it to holden to sort it out
I'm a boy who appreciates a good body, regardless of the make.
Disconnecting battery does nothing just quietly...
