    Default GMM TK Cam

    G'day,

Looking into a cam upgrade for my ssv, anyone have. TK Cam installed? My car is a daily driver so it needs to retain some manners and city drivability.

    Cheers

I know of a guy with one installed, however, its an auto with a decent converter in it. He drives the arse off it and loves it to bits.
Would be a whole different kettle of fish with a manual.

Your absolutely right, it is a big cam for a daily drive. I use the car for work probably doing 1000km a week average, but i love driving. Was thinking about a mid range cam in, but knowing myself ill want the big cam after a week or so. You know how it is, once the power bug bits. Ive changed the exhaust, OTR installed and custom tune, car runs great, sounds good. Still thinking about the cam, thats why i posted this thread see if anyone has it in already and there experience with it.

I hear what your saying, may be a bit of over kill. I looked at their YouTube channel seems to be Street Racer is we're most punters are at. Mid range can

Ive got the Oztrack HPS cam which seems fairly big, and isnt hard to drive at all, real nice a lumpy and hauls ass!

Mines also a daily and manual with a heavy duty clutch

I'm running the stealth 2 and i think it's great. Has very good street manners and idles tough. It doesn't bother my wife either which is a bonus.
My car does mainly town driving on a daily basis so this was a particulary delicate choice for me also. I wanted a nice lumpy idle but very good drivability and mid range power.
Overall i'm stoked with my choice on the stealth 2.

As you live in the Sydney CBD, go see Sonny and Murat at Marranos (at Croydon). Given you have a manual, they have a larger cam that may suit your desire for extra grunt but also retain some reasonable manners for daily driving. They have some Youtube vids, so search through those and you'll get a feel for what they can offer.

I don't pull myself over grind numbers but I couldn't buy a cam without knowing exactly what it is. Oztrack was my first contact about cams but their secrecy about their cams put me off them

Im glad i went with the oztrack one, the HPS has the power and idle of a big cam but has the driveablity of a small one, and ive also been told its boost friendly, what more could ya want lol

I researched the shit out of this before i decided on which cam. Grind numbers mean nothing to me personally. I asked him purely out of curiosity and he didn't reveal the grind, only to say it's in the mid 220 range but i don't care either way.
I told him what i wanted and trusted him with his recommendation and barring a couple of tuning issues it's turned out to be exactly what i wanted.

Its my understanding that the L77 needs a few more internal parts changed in upgrading the cam. I've looked at a few sites and all packages seem to come with different part which is a tad confusing. I'm going to call Steve at OzTrack and Sonny at Marranos see what they can do. Horse Power Factory in Melbourne seem like they do a good package also. The number in the grind don't matter to me so much as the results. However the grind numbers give an indication of it's manner. Hopefully a few more punters will share their experiences. Should make a decision by next week installed in time to take Santa for a spin.

As long as your happy, i dont pull over cam grinds either i just like to know whats what, secret squirrel cams are obviously just a off the shelf cam hence why they wont give away to much info about them..

your in warnabool and Stevie Ozpost done your tuning or install aswell?

ive driven a mates ve ssv with a 232/234 and i personally thought it was ABIT too large for a daily. Personally i would opt for a slightly smaller 228/232, thats what i will be putting in mine eventually, thats my personal views anyway lol
