Hi all,
Got my new SSV Series II Redline Ute a few months ago and I'm finding it a bit on the quiet side, so I'm pretty keen to beef up the sound. This is my first sports car and I have very little idea where to start as far as choice of exhaust system goes. Catback or no catback? stainless? or mild steel? And do I have to change out the entire exhaust system to get a deep loud note or can I get away with just changing the tips. Also its an auto and I've heard rumors that they may drone which I obviously want to avoid if possible.
Would be greatly appreciated if someone out there can point me in the right direction.
Thanks
THE HOLDEN REDLINE EDITION. CAUSE YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING
Best bet would be changing the whole system, but a cat back will do fine. So many people talk about droning issues with autos, and manuals for that matter. The reality is that if you a labour the engine it will drone. Click it down a gear or blip the throttle and presto it's gone.
Is this it?
I have the 2010 redline ute in manual and put a 2.5" stainless lukey cat back, and in my opinion it is one of the better sounding systems.. There is no drone what so ever and is not to loud (it is still more then loud enough when you push it)
It will get a bit louder when I put the pacemaker extractors n high flow cats..

KPM system is loved by those that have it, and is guaranteed no drone in 2.5inch, but not in 3inch.
I'm a lover of the VCM system, that too is no drone.
If you go with either of those systems they will be Stainless Steel.
As for full system or cat back etc, catback will get you more noise, but a full system will sound different again and bring better performance results. However with a full system you'll more than likely need a tune.
I need a cat back system on mine also as you can barely hear it running until you boot it. I was just going to go to JHP and get a Xforce 2.5" in mild steel as its under $1k installed. The guy said unless you planning on towing a boat you shouldn't need stainless as the salt water will kill the mild steel over time.
