Default Adding Suede to the interior

    Hi All,

I'm looking at adding some suede to parts of the interior...

To start, i want to do the backs of the front seats - they are currently the hard plastic with the net backs to them... has anyone done this, if so, how do you get them off or atleast the net backs? What did you use to stick the suede down?

    Thanks!

I'm going doen this path too as the back of the seats are a real let down for the VE. Whilst I suspect I could do this myself, given the curves of the back to the covered, I'm having a pro do it and have lined up a good auto trimmer for this.

Not sure about the netting, but suspect it's afixed from the back and then through to the front, so may well come away easy once the back has been removed.

All the HSV models have suede on the backs of the seats ( and inserts on the fronts), so shouldn't be to hard.

My car only has it on the seat backs. I wouldn't recommend it for any area regularly used though. It wears badly and is a real pain to keep clean.

My VE GTS has suede, and leather seats. Car has done 100,000ks, and seats still like new.

See some pop up on Ebay everynow and then. Why not just upgrade the whole seats?

I bought fake suede from Spotlight. I used spray adhesive. I put it on the a and c pillars, the glovebox and the trim under the steering wheel and the side trim around the transmission tunnel. My only problem is I didn't use enough spray adhesive first time. Fits fine now.

Keep in mind guys, if you're going to do this (I think it looks great, incidentally) you should certainly protect the fake suede with something like 303 fabric guard. Otherwise it will look manky in a minute.

My vy has been retrimmed in red and black suede. I wouldnt say its hard to keep clean, moreso easier to keep clean than cloth and unlike leather you dont have to keep oiling it up.
    Pics in sig below.

To the op... Post up pics when its done!

Just to be clear - actual suede is not used in automotive trimming. Or at least VERY rarely. You would have to have some kind of mental issue to want genuine suede in a car. Alcantara is the norm - feels like suede, looks like suede - but you can clean it. Microfibre suede is also used sometimes (the fabric Bonners has used) - not as durable or as realistic as alcantara but much cheaper.
