    Default Another exhaust thread..

Hey.. I know.. Read the exhaust thread, but my question was different.

Could anyone let me know of places (Sydney/Wollongong region) that sell the Varex Mufflers 2.25" and 2.5" for the VE V6?
Or do I have to get the cat-back? Because I haven't seen anywhere selling just the mufflers.

Also, what would be an average price to pay just for mufflers?

Can u just get the mufflers on their own? I don't wanna change the cat-back (have been quoted $1750 fitted for cat-back with Varex mufflers)

Would have thought you'd just need the flange changed to fit, if anything. There are plenty of cars running around with stock systems and 3 inch rear cans.

The reason I'm replacing the SSV mufflers I have now is cos they drone under load, and are very loud on a cold start (shakes my garage waking everyone). Would the 3inch Varex closed be quieter than the ssv's? Just don't wanna go backwards.

SSV muffers are droning? Then I would say these would absolutely be worse. try and get some SS mufflers from an AFM auto. They use the V6 mufflers with quad tips.

Yeah, they drone 2,400-2,800 rpm under load, and are quite loud on a cold start.
Thought the varex's would be a better option so it's quiet on cold starts, and louder when its not early in the morning or night.
Would there be a noticeable difference in sound (closed Varex) between the 3" and 2 1/4 inch?
    Thanks

little to no difference. My understanding is that the Varex, when closed, are slightly louder than stock on an SS - so they will be slightly worse than what you have now.

Not to be a nanny - but you know they're illegal for street use, right?

Hmmok, thought it would make it quieter (what they say on their website, but can't trust the advert).
If its going to be louder when cold than what I have now I probably won't get them.
Yeah - I did read they are illegal, but I don't drive like a d&%khead, and haven't been pulled over in this car so I assume I'd be ok.

Personally, I can't see them being quieter than stock SS mufflers when closed. Maybe close, but I doubt very much you'd hear any improvement - and would end up trying to flog them half price on ebay. Just my 0.02

    Thanks TinSnips,

I'll try find someone who has them on a v6 and have a listen, the only thing that is annoying with the SS mufflers is the excessive noise they make when the car is cold - doesn't bother me, but the family complains. So if the varex's (along with new gaskets as mine are fair dodgey) fixes the noise when cold I would be more than happy.
