Hey all,
The last couple of days my low-beams have been acting weird.
Yesterday both low beams were working, and then when I got in the car a couple of minutes after it was off both low-beams wouldn't turn on. Every other light (High beam, fogs(hid), Parker's, indicators and brakes work). I have checked all fuses and connections to the ballasts.
Then this morning the right low-beam was working and left wasn't. Any ideas what couple cause this intermittent issue? Both low-beams are HIDs and were only installed 3 months ago.
Anything else I could check would be appreciated.
**dont flame for beings HIDs, my lights are projectors, adjusted at he right angle**
Mine will intermittently do that if I start the car with them on or if AUTO headlights are on and I'm in a dark location. I've learnt to turn to parkers before starting my car. The ballasts seem to have protection in them to prevent the quick ON/OFF/ON when the engine is turning over.
Yeah, I normally turn them off before starting the car as I have noticed that too..
Would unplugging them and plugging them back in reset said 'protection' mode? Just odd how both aren't working when its normally just one if I forget to turn them off before cranking.
Same here my hid kit does the same.
Good to hear that it isn't only mine.
I thought I had a dodgy set.
Is there a real fix for it like changing the fuse for the low beams to a higher resistance therefore not cutting out so easy.
I don't think that's really safe thou.
Any suggestions?

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
I would call when you unlock the car and the lights auto turn on approaching lights as you said. I had that on, and then I'd turn my lights off to crank, then back on once the car had started. I think doing this and then sometimes forgetting to turn the lights off has broken either my globes or the ballasts, so I've order a new integrated kit with no messy wires, hopefully they work after that.
Good luck. I'd have ordered those integrated ones too but they only came in 6000K when I was buying![]()
Oh that's lame.
My broken ones were 5000K, got the same as you but in 4300K coming in the mail now, guess I'll turn approaching lights off and try to not break this set. I had HIDs in my old car, which outlasted the car so that's why it's a bit disappointing after a few months.
I know if I did crank with my fog lights on only one would stay on so I'd have to turn them off/on.
I got genuine Philips 4300K for my lows and crappy eBay 55W 4300K for my highs, didn't buy the integrated ones because they were only 6000K.
What are those integrated hid kits? :Curious:

I was talking to a mate yesterday about a similar situation with the headlights. In so far as not coming on until the vehicle is running. What he does is fit a voltage sensing relay (or a programmable relay detecting voltage) and sets them to not turn on headlights until 13V is sensed, and turn off once the vehicle is shut off. This is how he has overcome having lights drawing on the battery while starting. So until the alternator starts to charge your lights don't turn on.
I aim to misbehave.
got hid on all lights including the fogs. in my car. had same problem. bought a hid relay and it fixed it the ballasts dont like the auto headlights. seems going by what i found out. the ballasts in hid can be a pain with the auto headlights on the ve. talked to a few guys before had same problem. relay fixed it right away. not hard to install it. the relay i got plugged into my hid lines with no problems and i hooked up the main power line for relay off my positive point where you jump start your car. simple job to do. make sure its a HID relay. not a normal one as most HID relay hook up to your same wiring loom on the hid ballast oh i got mine including the HID from MaxVision. online.
here is what i asked before from members and they helped
a question do u have to install a relay on Hid with auto headlights

Hey StoneX how are the Phillips kits? I'm looking at buying a some to go into a set of Rallye 4000s.

They work and are the correct colour... That is all so far. I'm just hoping the extra I paid makes them reliable enough to outlast the car. I'd probably just buy cheap eBay ones next time as there doesn't seem to be much difference.
It's hard to know... You need a spare ballast and bulb just to fault find the issue.
I'd just buy a cheap kit and you can always sell it if it ends up not being an issue with your current kit or if you need a part from the new kit, you've then got a bunch of spare parts![]()
I just purchased the HID intergrated kit for the low beams, and 2 new HID bulbs for highs(currently standard globes).
So I'll replace the lows with completely new, and try to get the highs to work with the old ballasts, then if the ballasts dont work I can just order those aswell.
