SS towing querie

Hi.
Most tradies use an SS ute for towing their tool trailer. Is there anything different between an SS wagon chassis in comparison to an SS
ute, or are there any problems that anyone has identified towing a tool trailer daily???

IIRC the wagon is on the SWB sedan platform whilst the ute is on the LWB Caprice platform. I've never heard of people having problems towing with a VE and have done many many tens of thousand km towing using SSV sedans without problem.

thanks have growing family and thinking of going to wagon any idea on what sort of fuel consumption you would get with a 8 by 6 tandem trailer

Depending on the weight of the trailer full. ( being a tool trailer it may not be much )

Are you driving an Auto or Manual?

Keep in mind Autos have a higher capacity (braked 2100kgs)
Manuals are significantly lower with a maximum braked capacity of 1600kgs.

Also on recommendation it is advised not to use top gear when towing a loaded trailer.

looking at ssv auto going from a old 80 series land cruiser would love a ute but need more seats had a xr6 ba man that sucked also tow a 18 foot ski boat so there is always something on the back wondering if it would be excessive on fuel???

On the hwy sitting on 110 with a 1 tonne boat (2010 ssv manual ute) in 5th gear Mine is around 17L 100 if flat, throw some good consistent hills in and it's closer to the 19-20L/100. The ute towing in Adelade city can reach 25L/100..

But tows really well, really comfortable.

I'm heading to Vic in 5 days to trade in my 2010 ssv redline ute for a 2011 ssv redline sports wagon, so hope the wagons tow as well as the ute's..

I did a bit of towing with out SSV wagon with a trade trailer, fuel was around 12lt per 100 AFM highway average.
