Default Steering wheal controls on a aftermarket head unit?

    Hey lads,

I would like to find out if the steering wheal controls can be used with an after market head unit.
I have found products such as this
    Car Selector
But I have been told they don't work on the VE controls.
    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Have a search through the car selector again using the pontiac G8 sedan as a guide. There are some links for them.

My alpine headunit works with the steering wheel buttons, it comes with a IR kit.

How good are those IR systems? I have heard they have some lag?

The ones that come with my Clarion HU work quite well actually. No real lag or issues. The only thing is finding a good spot to mount the IR so it points at the HU.

I actually have no experience with them as I stuck with the factory head unit in the end. I would email the guys & ask them directly

well you get the benefit of more adjustability than an aftermarket head unit (when installed by a pro or a person with experience).

you can adjust the each speaker/sub/tweeter independantly and adjust frequencys x-overs and all that fun stuff.

there are a few good ones around i have the Alpine PXA-H800 with controller.(you can get without) and its amazing, i can adjust things on the go like any aftermarket head unit. and it sits just infron of the gearstick, no cutting of the plastics or mods its only velcroed on.

They are about the same price maybe a bit more than a top of the range headunit but you get Digital quality sound and basically no distortion if you put in/have good aftermarket speakers.

ill put up a photo if you like of where it sits in my car. i love it. i can change presets with a simple click to better suit rock, pop, electro, or jazz and all that.

i suggest you read up on alpines website and find out the other brands, someone else on here has the competition equivalent to mine.

Might throw it out there.. How about ripping out the standard headunit and replacing it with a tablet? Something different I guess.
