Hay guys I've got a cammed ssv ute with a full 3 inch stainless force
Exhaust.
Just wondering what exhaust set up other
Ppl have on cammed utes. Do most ppl run with the 3 mufflers?? I'm thinking of chopping out the centre muffler and puttin in straight pipes as it's not anywhere
Near as loud as I want.
uve got the wrong exhaust, mine is loud even with 3 mufflers...
pacemaker headers, ballistic cats, and surelfo 3" stainless is what im running
difillipo FULL STOP
Hurricane 1 7/8 headers, hurricane cats and hurricane 2 1/2 catback. No drone, not extremely loud which is what I wanted and cost $1500 all up fitted
KPM 2.5" here, more than loud enough
If you want to cam it dont get the kpm 2.5" im not happy with mine , its loud enough but idle sounds shit
Yeah I'm thinking I'll try it with the straight pipes and if it shit then im looking at starting all over again.. Only shit thing is the force system cost me 3500 so hopefully I might be able to flog it on eBay
I must admit, at idle it's not the best but everywhere else is excellent. I was toying with the idea of also changing to 3" but i'm afraid it would be too loud.
I'm considering experimenting with some other mufflers on mine to sort out the shitty flutter that it gets at idle but i'm thinking only a 3" will solve that problem.![]()

yeah im in the same basket as is stonex , i dont want it any louder but want the nice lumpy idle not the flutter lump lump flutter flutter shit im putting up with , was told it was because the cam is largish but stonex's cam is a fair bit smaller and still does it , so i have lost all faith in kpm and will be selling it and going diffillipo .
my question is, why are all of u running 2.5" with cams? im not gonna pretend that i know alot about cars, but when i was shopping for exhausts, i was told the difference power wise between 2.5 and 3 was nothing, but if u were gonna change ur cam or run FI, 3" is what is recommended. maybe thats what is causing ur weird noises at idle maybe its a little restrictive or something like that? i dunno, just a guess
Theres not a lot to be gained with a cammed engine from going from 2.5" to 3" other than more attention from the cops
Exactly why i'm nervous about the prospect of going 3".
The way i see it, i'm not chasing huge power gains so going 3" to iron out a flutter issue only is a bit silly in my book. I reckon i'll talk to my local exhaust guru here and let him play around a bit with mine to see if he can come up with a solution.
havent been pulled over....yet. unless ur driving around at 6k rpm all the time, i dont see how ud get THAT much attention
Ive got the full 3" kpm system with the 1 /7/8 headers with the oztrack HPS cam and it sounds tough as idle and is pretty loud under load
i have had the 3" kpm pre slc system on my car prior to going to the 2.5 system as it wasnt what i wanted i sold it , very loud , boomed thru the car and felt like i couldnt drive the car as i was looking around for cops all the time as i could see me getting a defect , would be good to hear one of gregs systems ( sureflo )
yeah, i have a vid in my ride thread, but doesnt do it justice, so just come to sydney lmao :P
A 3" will get you a higher dyno reading but that's about it. Driveability is a lot better with 2 1/2".
The best way to get the lumpy note and get rid of any flutter is to remove any type of balance tube you have, ie: H pipe or X merge. Anything that connects one side to the other. What you are hearing is the pulse from the opposite bank in between each pulse from that bank.
Sounds best when both sides are completely separate, but the trade off is a bit of bottom end torque. Not that much though.
Just an update here. KPM are working on a new rear muffler setup to iron out the flutter problems they're having with their 2.5" SLC systems. I spoke to them today and they're expected to be ready for shipping by the end of january. Only problem is, you'll be forking out at least $400 per muffler!
Undecided what to do here, especially after talking to Darren Difilippo today about their systems.
i can remember when vcm found they had an issue with there new otr and sent out a replacement otr free of charge to the affected buyers , wouldnt it be nice if kpm did the same thing even on an exchange basis ........................ not holding my breath .
what did darren have to say , i sent gm motorsport an enquirey as they deal with diffillipo , mentioning the issue im having with my 2.5" and that i didnt want to go to a 3" and they said there was some new designs coming out in the future and to hold off buying anything for the moment .
Just that they're working on the new design to specifically iron out this problem and that they should be ready come the end of jan. $800 is alot of coin but i suppose it's still better than replacing the whole system. I did say that i'd be prepared to try them when they come out as long as i could return them if it didn't fix the issue i had, wouldn't hold my breath though.
i would reccomend you if you did go down this path to go to vcm as they are there selected victorian supplier and get them to fit them to the vehicle and if it doesnt fix the issue they can then remove them , as trying to get a refund out of kpm wouldnt happen .
they knew i was far from happy with my exhaust and it was brand new and there was no offer of a refund .... it was thats ok by our standards (sounds shit house) KPM NEVER AGAIN
