    G'day mate.

My '07 Lumina has just under 150,000. I bought it with 110,000 on it and I have had no issues with mine.
It's been happily running on LPG since 125,000.

Mine has clocked over 160 and has no issues. If anything a slight rattle / knock on cold startup. After you check the oil listen closely to the engine when you start it up ... for things like timing chains and big ends, but again thats obvious. Most of all check the log book and service records.

Look into the engine at the oil cap and remove the filter and check for thick sludge. When you open the cap there should be a shiny metal plate in there not brown sludge.

They have there fair share !!! Timing Case cover under the alternator, major one, where the oil filter housing bolts to the block, another common one, sump seal is average and weeps from there, and the usual hick ups

220,000 km on mine - had to replace the throttle body (~$400), but apart from that, all OK. Check for regular service intervals, and see how it drives. You should get it pretty cheap with those Kays.

At 173k's old it won't have even been through one tank of petrol yet or had it's 1000k free check up back at the dealer. What's to worry about?

You never said if it was a SIDI or alloytech. If it was alloytech then 16K isn't a good price for those K's in my opinion. SIDI on the other hand would have been an OK price. Also with high K's, it's not just the motor to worry about, the rest of the car will also suffer.
