    Default Change water in radiator

Is there anything special in changing radiator water in VE, have looked for threads but can't find any on ve.
As they don't have the bleed valve like other models how do you get water to the top.

If you need to dilute your coolant it is recommended to use demineralised water (which is even better than distilled water). I know Bunnings sell it in a 4 litre container.

Anyone know where to buy Dex-Cool from ? (Apart from Holden Obviously ???)

I am looking at doing a Radiator Flush these Christmas Holidays

Also, I have heard some bad reports about Dex-Cool, specifically this extract from wikipedia
DEX-COOL specifically has caused controversy. Litigation has linked it with intake manifold gasket failures in General Motors' (GM's) 3.1L and 3.4L engines, and with other failures in 3.8L and 4.3L engines. Class action lawsuits were registered in several states, and in Canada, to address some of these claims. The first of these to reach a decision was in Missouri where a settlement was announced early in December 2007.[17] Late in March 2008, GM agreed to compensate complainants in the remaining 49 states.[18] GM (Motors Liquidation Company) filed for bankruptcy in 2009, which tied up the outstanding claims until a court determines who gets paid.[19]

According to the DEX-COOL manufacturer, "mixing a 'green' [non-OAT] coolant with DEX-COOL reduces the batch's change interval to 2 years or 30,000 miles, but will otherwise cause no damage to the engine."[20] DEX-COOL antifreeze uses two inhibitors: sebacate and 2-EHA (2-ethylhexanoic acid), the latter which works well with the hard water found in the US, but is a plasticizer which can cause gaskets to leak.
Has anyone used anything else for their VE (Specifically L98s) ????

    Cheers

Never had any issues with the genuine holden red stuff.

Firstly ensure your heater is set to full hot but the fan and ac is off.

The system takes more than 5 litres you get in the bottle so add the bottle then top up with water. If your radiator doesnt have the bleed screw on the top at drivers side then you remove the small hose that goes into the front of the radiator on the passenger side. it should just have a spring clamp on it. Once coolant flows from that point of the radiator refit the hose but not the clamp. Keep topping up and keep the engine running till both top and bottom radiator hoses are hot. Then remove the small hose once again ensuring cooling is flowing out then refit and clamp. Once the cooling system is correctly bled up a whirlpool will form at the fill point. When this happens simply refit the cap (a new one is a good idea) and youre done.

I'm pretty sure Nulon sells a Red OAT coolant which is suitable for Alloytec's ( so it says on the bottle anyway )

I run the AC Delco pre mixed product from Coventries... No problems, squeaky clean stuff and resonably priced..

Dont mix your coolants though.. make sure you drop your heater hose off above you a/c compressor to drain your block too... I parked mine on a decent gradient so it all drained out.

When changing coolant do you have to remove the reservoir or is there an easy way to drain it, I've read the pdf from ufo but I do not fancy removing the front wheel and wheel arch cover, or is it necassary to empty it.

Depending on your specific model you should have a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator.
Just stick your head under the front of the car and you should see the drain plug.

    He means the overflow tank.

You could probably syphon it out but not compulsory.

Syphoning was the best solution i came up with also. Just pull the neck off the tank and away you go, without getting a mouthfull of coolant obviously.
Just for the record, what do yo suggest filling up the reservior with ? ie mixed coolant rather than the straight stuff i guess ?

    Fill up with mixed coolant.
