Hi Just needing some advice nd Help. Just bought a hurricane 3" exhaust cat back system for my SS ute, was told it would have pretty loud note nd after watching quite a few dodgy youtube sound clips, nd talking to a few people i took the plunge. I don't have all the funds to go full system atm. was think about taking rear mufflers off nd running straight through. to be honest i jus was Tuff Fat LOUD AS Sounding Ute! And at the moment i don't have that please help. Cheers Also Looking for a exhaust joint arond wagga that does tuning if i do buy extractors nd hi flow cats off Ebay!!!!
So have you fitted it yet?
If not, fit it and see what it sounds like before asking what to do to make it sound good.
Yeah mate fitted it saturday. im so guttered. can u please help a brother out without braking my bank balance
replace the factory cats. they limit the sound heaps allthough i'm not sure if you can just replace the cats without doing the extractors too
Not really, the exhaust system is the thing that changes the note and makes it louder, the cats will make it louder again when fitting high flows, but they won't be the problem in this particular instance. Hurricane's website is being updated so I can't even look at the system, but I'd say their design is what makes it quiet.
Yeah mate it has Mufflers at the rear they dont look that restricting to be honest. the system go like this from catback Xflowpipe, 1st set of hotdogs, pipe, 2nd set of hotdogs, more pipe out to rear mufflers with the twin chrome tips either side. my standard system was louder with rear only rear mufflers removed, nd it only had 1 set of hotdogs plus a muffler before the dogs. the thing is it looks like it would be this fat as loud system!!!!!! but its a big quite elephant!!!! Yeah the hurricane site is no help at the moment!!!!!
no centre muffler just 2 sets of dogs!!!!
Cut which bit out, the Xflow???? will it do anything to perfomance/power?????? what about taking 1 set of dogs off nd taking rear mufflers off nd goind straight through?? i mean i want it LOUD not over the top but somewhere in between!!!!
Yes, the cross over pipe.
You went for the wrong system to start with. Either change systems, or do what I told you.
Thanks Mate. Um yeah i no i don't have a great deal of experience. Can i just ask 1 question. how can xflow do so much to the noise????? or lack there of!!
Mate, this all sounds a bit strange unless they have significantly changed their systems. I guess that is possible.
My 2 1/2" Hurricane is very loud and sounds fantastic. Gets lots of comments. I do have headers as well but have heard a few Hurricane cat back systems as well.
Also they gave me great advice and service when i had mine fitted about 2 years ago. At the time there were a couple of different loudness options.
Have you contacted them for advice?
The X pipe combines the exhaust pulses, as each pulse crosses over, the sound also continues down it's original side, so in effect you have 8 cylinders firing down each pipe instead of 4. This makes it quieter as the pulses are closer together.
Do you have this Xflow pipe in your 2 1/2 inch system??? na haven't contacted yet getting onto it tomorrow. Im just so annoyed. put my hard earned into buy a quality system only to find it blows wet farts nd nothing else! Is there anything else i need to no exhaust Guru?????
No I don't. The left and right sides are completely separate.
