They'll generally only do an update if there is a fault with one of the systems. As far as I know, each system has to be checked individually - it's not just a matter of plugging in the tech 2 and hitting update.

Theres a lot of causes of flat batteries in early VE's. The battery may have just been at the end of its life.

The software updates were for the IPC and BCM modules. All other issues were related to poor earths, water entry etc.

See how it goes with the new battery, if it goes flat again then further investigation will be required.

Swaybar D bushes fail and the swaybar can slide around and cause clunking. The revised D bushes are a lot better.
Strut top bushes and bearings fail, steering doesnt self centre properly as it binds up at the bearing, can also cause clunking.
Front spring clunk cause by the spring moving on the seat of the strut. Fixed by putting a rubber disc between the bottom of the spring and the strut.
Harmonic Balancers start to come apart and get excess runout, you can see it wobble at idle if this is the case. Can also throw the AC belt, theres a revised bracket to prevent the AC belt coming off.
Heater hoses leak at the quick connector, fixed by first removing crimp clamps and fitting worm drive clamps. If that fails replace the hoses.
They are the main engine related ones...

And don't forget about the one where they catch on fire if you press the hazard light button and horn at the same time!

Thats actually in the export manual. In the exported cars a flamethrower was fitted as an anti hijack device but to save money in Australia they didnt bother installing the flamethrower tubes so the car just sets itself on fire.

I imagine they would be fairly cheap and you could even install them yourself they are just held in with a metal cap and two 13mm nuts on each side.

Let me know if you want instructions on how to do it properly.

To see if it is the D bushes jack the front of the car up and put axle stands under it. Grab the swaybar, it hangs down under the subframe either side of the engine, and try and slide it side to side. If it slides the bushes are cactus. It should be solid and not slide at all.

Basically raise the car at the front so the wheels are in the air.
Support the car with axle stands, dont work under the car on a jack or anything else dodgy.
Undo the 4 x 13mm nuts securing the U shaped metal caps that sit over the D shaped bushes then remove the caps themselves.
The D bushes have a split in the base so just slide them off the swaybar.
Clean the swaybar where it contacts the bushes then fit the new bushes. The new bushes have the split at the front of the bush.
Fit the metal caps and the nuts but dont tighten yet.
Make sure the swaybar is centralised then tighten the 13mm nuts.
    Job done.

Note: You can access the nuts from above by removing intake piping from the throttle body and unclipping the airbox cover. Unplug the MAF and the breath tube and put the lot to one side. Just make sure ignition is off and that you plug everything back in before turning ignition on.

Hey can anyone tell me if the rubber discs that fit under the front springs are able to be fitted to any model VE, eg 06 series one ? If so where do I get them from ?

Be interesting to find out if there is some new software, in particular for the 6sp Auto that improves it's operation over the last 12 months. Do you know current version numbers for a SII SV6 RiCeY?

Yes they fit all, any Holden parts will have them in stock. You have to dismantle the strut to fit them so it would be very wise to also fit new strut top bearings and bushes at the same time.
