    Default Auto trans question

With the auto, as those with an auto are well aware, when you place it in "Sports Mode" it holds the gears marginally longer, shifts a bit better, kicks back easier..... but when you apply hard acceleration and braking in rapid succession, like going through "10 Mile" it goes into full sports mode for want of a better word were it will hold the gear all the way to redline before it shifts, and then when you apply the brake, it will kick the gears back. It's a lot of fun in the twisties!!
My question to the tech heads.... can the gearbox be programmed so that it will switch into full sports mode easier? I know you can reprogramme the box, Glenn at G-Force is apparently trying to develop a street friendly shift programme for them. I'm just not sure on exactly what can be done with the programme.

    TIA

    • UNDERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.

    • OVERSTEER is when you hit the wall with the rear.

    • HORSEPOWER is how fast you hit the wall.

    • TORQUE is how far you take the wall with you.

There are a lot of people re-mapping the auto boxes - it's generally included in any tune package. Fixing the flaring seems to be the biggest win for auto owners - but certainly the shift patterns can be altered significantly.

as tinny said the box has a tune put into it when an engine tune is done but thats where it ends normally, one set line pressure, torque abuse management played with and some shift points changed in a nutshell.in reallity the 6l80e is an absolute bastard to tune properly as your mate at g-force no doubt knows. flaring can be made worse with a tune as 99% of them flare in std form its just not as noticeable. early boxes -06 to late 09- have oil pump probs (can be expensive to fix as the pump is part of the bellhousing) and internal leaks which results in fried clutch packs-there are no bands in these boxes-. after doing research of my own the biggest single problem with them is lack of oil capacity in the australian boxes, holden took it upon themselves to put a shallow pan on our boxes which results in oil starvation at the filter pick up as the oil cavitates under load when ur up it. the yanks dont have the same problem as they use a much deeper pan. lots of guys are now getting the pans modded to be made deeper with baffles put in and the result is night and day, no more flaring, much better shifts etc.. so if you get the right tune,do the pan mod, yours being an 06 so i'd look at the pump as well, you will be much happier with result. if you like shoot silvervh a pm as he is much more savvy with them and told me about the pan mod.
im out of my mind at the moment...please leave a message

When Glenn tuned it he left the gearbox programming alone excpet to turn the torque management up as far as he could, which basically although it's not "dissabled" it's close to it. I actually like the way it shifts now under hard acceleration. The one thing i really want is to be able to get it to drop into full sports mode a lot easier.
