Hey
What are the best break pads to buy?
And what's that stuff you can put on your orig pads that stops them making the squeaking noise?
Cheers
buy pads that suit your driving style
i put the "red goo" on the back of the cheap one from SCA when my wifes corolla pads squealed after I changed them. it worked a dream but never going to buy cheap ones again. for the calais I just got the oem ones from holden spare parts and they have a rubberised backs and all the new retainers. no problems with them so "red goo" not required. a bit expensive thou at ~$120 for the front only. original set lasted 185K and discs still ok for a machine so happy with wear of both pads and on discs.

What type of driving do you do? That will help determine what pads you need.
Brake pads squealing is not because they're cheap, the most common cause is the brakes pads glazing over. When fitting new pads I try and scuff them up a bit before fitting (rubbing on rough concrete).
New pads need a few k's on them to bed them in. Just changed my pads and they squick a bit.
Some brakes are more metallic than others. Could be a number of reasons other than price.

yep that what I though too. put the new 'calibre' ones in the corolla from sca and even after a week (~500kms) the wife said 'no more, everyone is looking at me when I stop'. ripped them out and put the red goo on and all was solved. even the oem shim plated didnt resolve the issue.
Red goo is call,
Anti squeal or something like that lol
The goo turns to a rubber to stop vibration between the metals.

Sweet as thanks guys!
Talk to Greg from GSL Rallysport here on the forum, knows his stuff and very reasonably priced.
I bought Remsa pads from him. Quiet as, stop great but a little dusty, but certainly stop the big car much better than the OEM pads

As mentioned above, talk to Greg (GSL Rallysport) If you're going to be giving your brakes a hard time at all, Remsa pads will be the way to go, they have a very high temperature rating and they're pretty good price wise.
In regards to brake squeal that you currently have, I would first get some sandpaper and ruff up the discs, then remove the pads and give them a light sanding.
Before you put the pads back in it wouldn't hurt to add some sort of brake grease to the back of the pad.
QFM or Remsa pads...can't go past them for value for your money
I had the QFMs on the rear but had no anti rattle plates on the back. The rattling eventually gave me the sh*ts, so I replaced them with Remsa pads instead. Great pad and low dust though

To answer your question literally, I can only assume that the 'break pads' you speak of pertain to the pads commonly utilised by women who's uterine lining is breaking away... in which case I hear Libra Wings would be a safe bet.
(It's 'brake', as in to stop.... not 'break', as in break a leg. I'll go back in my hole now, spell check police are done for the day)![]()
Has anyone else found the Remsa pads a little numb when cold ? Once warmed up they certainly pull up better than originals.
Yes the first application is not pretty, but I knew this from previous performance pads. I live in a quiet street and just feather the brake pedal with my left foot driving about 100 metres until I actually need to stop.
Never had an issue after the first application, even driving on freeways for hours where the pedal may not get touched for ages, obviously the pad sitting close to the spinning rotor is enough to keep a little heat in them

Red goo stuff is to keep the pads firmly in the caliper since when you come off the brake and the piston moves back the pad rattles around causing the squeak as the pad moves around which is how you get little grooves around your new rotors after a few thousand km from parts rubbing, alot more common on the twin piston calipers then the old single pistons.
Best pads for normal application is EBC Green stuff, EBC red stuff if you wanna give em a hard time.
EBC are expensive as all #### honestly (like 200-300 for front) but i've never seen any other pad survive as well or as long.
You rotors will wear out before the pads if you get EBC Red![]()
Thanks guys and my bad on the spelling...

Hey .. Not using my car for any racing or towing, just daily use.. I do drive a little on the rougher side though and do break heavily..
I want pads that don't have alot of dust because I couldn't be arsed cleaning my mags every weekend .. Any pads reasonably priced to suit the above?
Cheers
Hi Steven,
If dust is your main concern then I'd go QFM HPX, which are a Bendix Ultimate equivalent performance wise, but very low dust and rotor wear. $79 per set front or rear. Shipping is free when order front and rear pads together, or else $8 per axle set individually.
Any other questions just let me know!
Regards,
Greg
