If its a financial WRITE OFF basically it means that it will cost you more to repair than it would to buy an undamaged one. Don't touch it.
If its a structural WRITE OFF just don't touch it.
Either way, don't bother with it unless you are parting it out.
and if your planning on buying a ve V6 parts car for 19k, good luck to you
As above, two types of write off, 1: Statutory - means can never be relicensed, only good for parts. 2: Repairable - means that the insurance company has deemed the repairs to cost close to or more than the value of the car so it is uneconomical to repair.
Panel shops often buy repairable write offs because they can repair the car for less than they quote to insurance companies so they repair it and sell it and make money. It is legal, but recorded in the state it was written off and harder to sell. Some people don't mind buying a car like this, some people do.
The car is registed and some one is driving it he is the second owner. it is INSPECTED-WRITEOFF when I checked it on the vic roads
it is brand new 10,000kms just dont know if it is worth it. he said he will give me it for under 20k.. should I get racv to check it out ?
if its registed and being driven around it is not a write-off and his if telling you fib's so I would tell him he's a liar not do not buy it.
He probly re-birth the car. STAY AWAY FROM IT it is not a bargin, he's still ripping you for 19k go to an auction to find out what write-off SV6's go for
you rekon ? I dont know because when you go to the vic roads website and do a vehicle check it tells you that it is INSPECTED-WRITEOFF
I googled it and it said that the car has been in a smash and been a repairable write off and someone has fixed it and sold it
so you rekon I should stay away from it ? and were is the auctions ?
See the second paragraph of my post above. This is most likely what the car is. As I said, they are recorded when they are a repairable write off. Just because it is a repairable write off doesn't make it unsafe. The only reason it is recorded is because it cost too much to repair in the insurance companies opinion. If it was repaired as just a crashed car, there would be no record and you would be none the wiser.
As it is a repaired write off, it will be worth less than a car that hasn't been crashed. Your call though, it's entirely up to you if you want to buy it.
What most people forget or even don't even know about a repairable write off is that even if you fix it and get it inspected and it passes, you might very well end up crashing it yourself and loosing what ever it cost you.
They don't pay out twice on an already written of car.
when I had to write off my car they took the number plates and its impossible to fix now (SA car) if there computer's stay its written-off, they never fixed it or the computer wouldn't stay its still written-off.
19k is still too much, providing the damage and its hasn't been put thru the system correctly
personally i'd stay away from write off's unless I was fixing it.
nuff said about mine, there was no coming back from this

yeah I dont know like 19k for 2011 VE SV6 probally worth 30k its a cheap car but you dont know if its been fixed good or how bad the cars been hit
The other thing to consider is that when you go to sell it, it will still be listed as a write off. Won't be easy to sell then either.
Wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole myself. Doesn't take much to write off a VE, particularly if it has had side impact.
Lol - if you are intent on buying the car then buy it. You have asked the question and the replies have been nearly unanimous. Just keep in mind that it may be a cheap car now, but into the future it will always be difficult to sell, particularly when there are thousands upon thousands of VE's on the market. If it were me - I'd choose a slightly older one for similar money.
Reaper
You could get a VE Omega for $15k these days probably. Then fiddle around with it to your hearts content without the niggle that it's really ####ed.
And anyway. How does somebody under 18 have enough money for two SV6's?

Lol, 19k, go get ripped off lad.
Well seeing as he is in Victoria, it's irrelevant.
It all depends on whether the insurer wants to cover it or not. There is no legislation that states a repairable write off can not be insured.
Something like this would be better value: Holden Commodore VE Omega, 1 Year Warranty, Current Roadworthy, Registration | eBay
Wouldn't you rather get something like this? HOLDEN COMMODORE VE CALAIS HIGH OUTPUT V6 5 SPEED AUTO LEATHER MUST SELL
I know if I had to choose between that SV6 you're talking about and this Calais, I would pay the extra $900 and get the Calais.
