Hey Guys,
Just hoping i can get some advice on something that happened on a long trip we recently went on.
Our air con works really well around town and on short trips, but longer trips it seems to lose its "coolness" and the fan speed doesnt seem to work as well. We travelled a 1100km trip yesterday and it worked great for the first hour or so after each stop but then got hot. When we arrived at our destination and after unpacking the car i noticed some ice had fallen on the ground under the car and you could almost hear it melting with the drips dripping on the hot exhaust.
I assume that something is freezing up and restricting air flow etc, but just wondering if anyone else has had this problem before i take it to a mechanic...
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
Ben

Sounds like your a/c thermostat might be playing up and not cutting out when down to temp this will cause it to freeze up on long trips
Next time it does it just turn it off for a few mins and turn it back on it should have defrosted and work again for a bit if this is the problem
a mate of mine has a 2010 SSV, and he had a similar problem, around town etc AC worked sweet, on long trips it would cut in and out, sometimes switching the car on and off would fix it.
If you get in touch with Holden there was a service measure, wasn't a major job, but I've known of it happening.
air con units can also ice up if they don't have enough gas in them.
Thanks guys...was gonna give holden a ring tomorrow and see what they say but thought i would check it out here first...
Thanks again...

Its an issue with the evaporator temp sensor. The sensor says its hotter than it actually is so the system keeps making it colder and colder and eventually it ices up restricting airflow through the evaporator.
Silver Certified.
Have you tried running at a 'warmer' temp or do you have it flat out all the time?
