Front Parking Sensors

Hey all.

I have a 2006 VE Calais.
My friend has a 2006 VE Calais V - which has front parking sensors.

I was just wanting to know what would be needed to install them in my car?
I can get the interior trim which has the extra button for the sensors, but is there anything else needed other than the front parking sensors? Are the front sensors just the same as the rear but wired into the car differently?

Just trying to figure it all out - any help would be appreciated.

EDIT:
Just a thought - could I run the switch wire from the parking sensors up to the switch in the interior and just turn it on/off by that? I guess that would be the last option if no-one knows where the original wiring would go.

Looks like there is a kit available - one sold recently on Evilbay - HOLDEN VE FRONT PARK ASSIST SENSORS KIT *NEW* | eBay

You could contact the seller and see if it had fitting instructions, or ask a Holden dealer directly.

I have a Caprice, which has front and rear parking sensors. The front sensors use a beeper located in the dash somewhere, which is different to the beeper used for the rear sensors, which is located in the rear. I'd try to find the original kit first - it's much more likely to work reliably.

l could be wrong, but l think the front sensors are connected to brake lights and/or pedal, as you would have your foot on brake as your car gets closer to what ever is front of you.

The above model has a switch to switch the park sensors manually on and off.
This makes sense, as the dealer fit factory rear park sensors use the reverse lamp power feed to determine if the parking sensor should be on or not. (It does not wire up the the GMLAN).
I am pretty sure the dealer fit front park assist is the same deal, as you can see the extra button to switch this on in the auction.

With the CalaisV Park assist, Shifting from Neutral (Park or Reverse) to Drive turns on the front park sensors, and when travel over 20Km/Hr they are switched off until you Shift from Neutral (Park or Reverse) again.
There is a manual override switch to switch it off, but it doesnt (from memory) switch it on...

Bought that eBay ad one.. See how it goes once the new front bar arrives, plus when Holden actually end up ordering the new calaisV switch for tc/sport/park assist. I go to pick it up but they never ordered it.. And gave me the wrong price.

New bumper is being re-sprayed along with the sensors so should be install next weekend hopefully.

Sorry guys but I'm just curious about this, why bother with front sensors?, back sensors I can sort of understand because it can be difficult to gauge how close you are to hitting with the rear bar, but the front tends to be much easier to gauge...I can get within a couple of cm's if I really want to pretty much every time, seems like just an extra little piece of technology that isn't really needed.

With the slope of the bonnet and front end design on the VE its impossible to know where the front of the car is. With practise you work it out eventually but Id rather have the sensors than misjudge one day and be up for a respray/repair on the front bar.

Yeah agree with Ricey here,

Like everything, its an assistive technology.
You still need to be able to drive and judge distances, but the real benefit to front parking sensors is when you get boxed in.
(I.E. you have around 15cm front and rear to play with to try and get the car out of a parking space).

With the front parking sensors, the park assist can guide you to within 5cm of the car in front.
Obviously someone with enough experience with the car could do this too, but the good thing with the park assist is that it gives a constantly reliable feedback when parking, regardless of the time of day, or how tired the driver is..
(Something that comes in very handy after working for 14+ hours straight, and trying to get your car out of a tight car spot at midnight in the inner city), which are the times that I most appreciate the system..

Just to re-iterate, it is an assistive technology, just like ABS, traction control, stability management, and even to a lesser extent Automatic gearboxes, tachos, power steering, and GPS....
We could all easily live without all of these features, and just because a driver may lean on these features from time to time doesn't make the person driving any less capable.

Fair enough, It's understandable to use it but to me it just seems like one extra thing that will probably break

I finished installing my front and rear sensors today actually. Rather than pay through the nose for a kit made by Holden, I grabbed one of these off ebay for 70 bucks. Anyway, because I didn't want to put sensors in the front bar and make the bumper look all warty, I put them in the black mesh section under the number plate...2 of them in the top corners.

You can't see them at all unless you shove your head right under there and it makes parking close to anything without risking a nudge park pis easy. Makes me wonder why I never installed parking sensors before. The white dots are where I put the sensors.
