Default Check oil light after oil change

G'day , I own a 2006 VE Commodore series 1. Changed the oil yesterday putting in roughly 6.5l of penrite HPR5 and changed the filter. I also done an oil flush. I have the cartridge filter that sits in the metal cannister which i filled with some oil before filling through the oil hole. Today im driving and get the check oil light. the 3 hole dipstick is just above the 2nd hole. Whats the drama ? What should i do ?

    Cheers.

well for a start ve alloytecs hold approx 7 litres.
did the light come on straight away? and by oil flush do you mean engine oil flushing additive was used before you drained the oil?

The light came on three times the day after. You are correct about the flush. I added it to the oil ran it for 15 minutes then drained the lot.

    Cheers.

Early VE V6 only hold about 6.7litres.

Do you mean the red oil can light? Generally means low oil pressure. If its a bit sludged the engine flush has probably dislodged some sludge and its partially blocking the pickup as said above.

if you recently bought i'd guess oil changes where not done on a regular basis

i've seen this on engines with 100K full of sludge

OK, so how do i get rid of the sludge ??

The check oil light didn't come on again after lunchtime yesterday despite driving the car.

Is it safe to drive ?

    Cheers.

How did the filter look when you pulled it out?

When you put new oil in does it get dirty pretty much straight away or does it look clean after running the engine?

It should be safe to drive if the oil light isnt on and the engine isnt making any abnormal noises.
