Hi Guys,
Just wanting to know how much water can a VE can take, I own an Series 2 SV6 Ute.????
Where is the Air Intake actually enter the system also..
Thanks Alot...
How deep do you need to go?
Silver Certified.
The smallest amount of water will cause hydraulic lock and will pretty much put a hole in your engine block. That goes for any engine especially diesels. I don't know why your putting a commodore near water anyway? And the intake picks up down near the fog light.
Liquid CANNOT compress scientific fact.

I'd love to see a commy with a snorkel.
Hey Thanks Guys,
Yeah I was only planning on going through 0.3m preferabable less.. And yeah i was planning to undo my Air Cleaner.
Wont need to go through anymore,
I can't see how 300mm would cause too many issues. Just remember, If you look like getting in the shit te easiest way toget out is a whole heap of flooring (a la Homer).
There is no way in hell i would be running a VE SV6 through 0.3. Water getting in and around the bottom half of your engine is not the only concern to be worried about here.
Is it running water , still water, how many wankers are coming through towards you. Is your car lowered ?
0.3 is more water than what it appears.
Cheers mate.

exatcly what happened to my mate when his wife drove his vz calais through a flooded road early last year. she reckons it was only about a foot deep and had to drive through it to get home. 4wd came the other way and bow wave went up over bonnet and car stalled and never started again. open door and small amount of water flowed into cabin so wasnt that deep. end result was calais "written off" as water got through motor, sensors and gearbox elects. as its the same gearbox and allloytec as the ve I would say keep your "feet" dry at all costs.
Friend of mines old man did this too. Went under a bridge in a vu ss ute through a quite deep puddle.
Hydrauliced the engine and stuffed the manual box. (engine stopped and wheels kept on driving). That was a write off too, although insurance payed.
Been though 0.3 in a 2007 ss. No problem just turn the AC off. Also been pulled through 0.5-0.6 car off no water in the air box. I have pics but I'll have to work out how to post from phone. Ok can't work out how so stuff it not good pics anyway

I've done it in older commos and never had an issue, even an ecotec, but the newer ones make me nervous. Still, i bet there's been plenty of VE's go through a foot of water around the country and most probably survive. if you have to do it just do a steady speed maybe 20 kays and keep going till you get across or it goes bang. and walk it first if there aint any crocs.
Last time we had minor flooding our workshop was full of VEs with munched engines due to swallowing water.
