I've recently purchased a 2010 VE Omega 2010 3L and found it was an ex cop car.
The mechanic pointed this out as it has a kill switch for the dash lights that remove all allumination from the dash, stereo etc.
I've heard that when police purchase these cars they put extra or different suspension in..... can anyone confirm if this is the case?
Also I've heard you can tell this by the vin or engine number whether it has different suspension than the stock suspension that comes with.
I believe this to be an ex Sargent Car and not a pursuit car due to the engine only being the stock 3L.
Chances are it was a general duties car. If its been fitted with different suspension by Holden at the factory it will tell you but if it's been done after the car was built the only way to tell would probably be to take it pedders or something. As for the dash kill switch I have no idea what purpose that serves but I would imagine any "police" mods have been removed.
It could have been any sort of emergency vehicle, not just Police. Ambulance and Fire vehicles get the same equipment.
And it would have a cop chip theres tonnes of extra kw's And lsd sports suspencion and dash light cut offs and bash plate etc.

Cop chips are a load of sh*t they don't tune them then don't put chips in them!
I know i was only being a smart arsei herd it does something about revs.

Lol thought so, they sometimes modify air boxes and remove rev limiters. But you talk to Holden techs and they all tell you different things. My opinion from what I hear is that they don't touch them at all really..
No cop chip, no modifications to air boxes or rev limiters.
Just flogged out front seat side bolsters from their equipment belts + getting treated worse than rental cars.

All cars have the dimming feature, they just dont have the button on the sunglass holder like the Police cars. Just press and hold the plus and minus dim buttons to alternate between normal and stealth mode.
Seen a lot of them with full leather sports buckets in the front lately, not sure what the go is there.
On the plus side they are always serviced on time unlike a lot of other fleet cars.
Silver Certified.
Unlike many other people i like ex cop carsEspecialy the un marked ones with all the brake dust on the stockers etc and the hwy patrol ones
Thats just me.. I would rather a chaser over a privately owned ones.

yeah the dimming feature pretty cool on dark country roads everything switches off except the speedo dial... is this the same as what happens in the cop car or does everything switch off?
They are NOT all regularly serviced on time. Many a engine has seized due to no servicing for 60000 km. it's quiet common that services are skipped and oil staying in for 20000km and being flogged all day everyday. Don't believe the hype, most cop cars are not looked after. That's nsw anyway.
Mate of mine (cop) would drive around in his gen 3 (when they had them in WA ) in second gear all the time every were. He liked to pick up and didn't give a s*** about the car.
It's not white is it? If it is then you've scored yourself a very hard worked general duties police vehicle. They get the crap flogged out of them (I'd know because I've done it) because the people driving them don't care because they don't pay to have them fixed.
The only general police vehicle I'd buy is either an ex unmarked (CIU) car because they're driven by detectives who are never in a hurry to get anywhere, just mind the spilled coffee on the console. Also a V8 highway patrol is a good choice. They do get a flogging but being the sort of engine they have they can take it. Highway patrol also take very good care of their cars, they are highly trained and skilled drivers and there are less different people driving them because the general duties coppers are told "hands off!".
Have you seen/heard of any engine problems/failures with the V8 engines only asking because you would see/drive a lot of them? And as you mentioned you guys drive them pretty hard
Probably getting off the thread a bit, but i own a 2009 SS commodore which was an ex victorian highway patrol car. I couldnt be happier with it, the only thing it had a couple of big scratches, maybe this was done when in service, when it was a marked vehicle , by someone who didnt like police, dont know. I did replace the cat converter and o2 sensors, all was replaced under warranty. Its got the button near the sunglasses holder, but doesnt bother me. Few wear marks on the seat, but nothing to lose sleep over, very nice car : )
Ex cop ss, fair enough. Ex cop v6, just why?
why i bought my 06 vz exec v6 ex cop, 32k in 3 years on clock, plus all book up to date, immaculate allblack trim,fe2,lsd, 4 power windows, 4-air bags, bash plate, auto shift feature and extra wiring haress which is great for big sound, lights ect, had car 2 years and only issue has been ignition, heater switch, i would not have considered buying a white general duties car, in the auction i bought at there were white and unmarked cars and the difference in quality was noticiable.

Ive got an 06 omega ex cop and yes its a white general duty car, if you look at in the right light you can still see where the stickers were on the bonnet and roof lol
Ive never had an issue with it in the 2 years iv had it and its an 06 model.
It goes pretty good for a stock v6 and has kept up with my mates 09 sv6 without a problem.
Post some pics mate

If Cars could scream Rape, I'm sure yours just did because I just eye fuc&ed the shit out of the above images.
I too have purchased an ex cop car, but its not white. I bought a 'Red Passion' 2009 VE. Ive only had the car a few weeks, and apart from a few light scratches and a few small scuff marks on the plastic, the car is immaculate. I had my mate look at the engine before and after i bought it, and he said that its like brand new.
