    Default Coin tray

    Hi all,

Just wanting to know, is it possible to fit the coin tray flip lid thing that the Calais has into a an Omega/Equipe?

Reason I ask is, in my VZ, I used to store all my change in the little holder inside the centre console, but they've done away with that. The little coin holders don't exactly suffice, so I want to chuck my change in the front part, but would rather it be covered, so it's not visible to any unsavoury types.

If it can be fitted, does anyone know that part# or what it's actually called, so a wrecker doesn't look at me stupidly?

Pretty sure it would fit in place of the tray but not 100% as Ive never tried it. Just say the compartment below the radio facia.

Will need to remove the trim that covers the gear stick to do the changeover.

No I have a VZ but Ive pulled the VE consoles apart many times and Im pretty sure the tray and compartment would be interchangeable.

I'm saying a definite maybe. I just checked out a Caprice for you and I think you would only need two bits because the flip cover is attached to the mechanism and the tray. The other thing you will need is the rubber insert thing. Send a message to your local dealer and get a price for them, I think it should probably work.
Oh and RiCeY is correct the gear stick plastic will need pulling off, just get your fingers under it and pull/wiggle.

I think they are different trays because the one with the lid has the hinge intergrated into it from memory.... might be wrong Ill have a look tomorrow if I remember and get part numbers.

Correct different trays, the hinge takes up a decent amount of room.

Yep, I know the tray is smaller to allow for the hinges, was hoping I could just buy the whole unit. Hopefully I can find one to match my trim.

I will give the dealer a call and see what the price is :-)

Oh and to the ash tray, nope, no ash trays in my last two Commodores (VZ and now the VE). I believe you can purchase a 'smokers' kit which gives you a cigarette lighter and a small ashtray that goes in the same spot though.

If you could get a part# and price that would be awesome :-)

Dropped by my local Holden dealer today, the guy was very helpful. He ordered the part in but they put the wrong part in the box, it was just the plastic bottom of the compartment. After having a chat, he found out that the mechanism comes separate and then you choose your lid colour, so anyone looking to buy this should be fine finding the right colour to match their trim.

He said the list price on the system is about $40, but not sure if that was for the whole lot, or just the mechanism. He's getting the correct part shipped tomorrow, so we'll say. Anything under $100 and I'm happy to pay it (since it's going to save me $300 if my window gets smashed by someone wanting to steal my change).

    Alright, followup for this.

Finally got the correct part. Now, it comes in two parts, the mechanism/tray and the fascia. The fascia apparently only comes in two colours, Rado Grey (gunmetal grey) and silver, luckily the rado grey is the perfect fit for the Equipe.

    Part numbers and descriptions are:
    Mechanism - VE Front Storage Comp Assy - Unpainted P&A - Part# 92200591
Fascia - VE Front Stor Compt Facia Rado Silver - Part# 92170909 (sorry, I don't have the silver part#

Installation was a piece of cake, you just pop off the fascia trim around the gear stick, either with a trim tool, or as I did, using a knife in a soft cloth. Work backwards from near the cup holders and pry it off. You don't need to disconnect any cables. Pull the fascia back a bit, remove the two screws holding the existing tray in, then just pull it forward, it's just got push clips at the back.

Then, basically the reverse but with the mechanism.

NB. You need to put the mechanism in BEFORE putting the colour fascia plate on. I tried about 5 times and it just wouldn't fit for some reason. Took the fascia plate off, put it in, screwed it down and then put it on and it worked a treat.

No before picture, but here is what it will look like before:

    And After:

Now my coinage can be out of sight. If anyone wants a picture of my actual install or if you live in Perth, I'd be happy to assist.

    Oh, and total price? $59.

From memory if you pull the radio facia off you can fit the tray fully assembled.

I tried to take the car apart as little as possible. It was pretty easy to put the fascia on when the unit was installed, it just clips over a little lip, then clips up the top.

The only 'issue' I've found is that the colour doesn't match the trim around the gear stick, only the trim on the stereo. I suspect that the other colour matches the trim around the gear stick, so they've used two different colour trims in the Equipe. If you have a look at dashboard photos online, you'll see that in the Calais, it's the darker colour everywhere, and in the Berlina, its the silver colour everywhere.

I don't believe so, I think the Series 2 has an additional little plastic lip under the stereo that the Series 1 doesn't have, I could be wrong though.
