Hello all my name is Mark and im new to this site it is my first post so take it easy if i sound like a rookie.
2 weeks ago the head unit of my VE ha started to play up and im not sure if it is the speakers that may have blown or my head unit is stuffed. im wanting to know weather if anyone knows a good place to get it fixed or looked at, also wanting confirmation that you cant change the head unit in a VE can you?
Also i have just purchased new taillights and headlights for my car to and was wanting to know a place where some could install them for me
thank any help would be much appreciated
Need more info regarding your head unit - what exactly is wrong with it?
Agree with above about head/tail lights. They're easy to install yourself.
As for changing the head unit in a VE, it REALLY depends on what you mean by change...
Can you swap the VE head unit for another VE head unit (such as fitting a Colour LCD Head unit from a Calais/SSV/HSV) ?
The answer is yes, you can, however it wont be a plug and play exercise...
You will need to have the new VE head unit VIN number changed to match the car you are fitting it to.
You can either pay Holden / Someone to do this for you (At a cost of a couple of hundred dollars),
Or using an 24Cxxx EEPROM programmer, (At a cost of around $60Au) you can do it yourself.
Here are detailed instructions on how to do it yourself...
www.carmodder.com • Programming the Colour LCD HVAC / Radio for the Holden VE Commodore
(Sorry Mods for linking to an external site, the page is too huge to copy and paste as a forum topic).
If you wish to fit an aftermarket head unit, you can do that too.. Many people have done this, but unfortunately I have no information on what is required at this time...
Hope this helps
Also, headllghts in a VE can be a bit of a pita, (Compared to other makes and models anyway)...
The front bumper needs to be removed to do this properly.
Luckily, removing the front bumper on a VE is rather painless. (Compared to other makes and models anyway)...
This page shows how to change the front headlamps.
www.carmodder.com • Front Headlamp Upgrades for the Holden VE Commodore
It shows how to fit HID bulbs to the VE projector headlamps, but the theory is all the same for changing the Headlamps to standard, projector, or after market.
The rear taillights are P!$$ easy...
Simply open the boot, remove the scuff plastic around the boot latch by removing the four screws,
Next, pull the scuff plastic upwards to remove. (It is held in place using 4 strong clips).
Next, locate the plastic plugs used to hold the boot linings in place, and remove.
Finally, pull the boot lining back to reveal the taillight bulb holders, and the 3 or 4 nuts holding the tailights in place.
From memory, the nuts require a 10mm or 12mm socket.
Hope this all helps
i know how to remove and put in the lights but the connection plug is defferent
Yeah, I have changed my Calais headlight bulbs for HIDs...I've done it to a VX S-pack as well as a late-model Honda CBR1100 and I can say this was the hardest (I didn't take the bumper off though). I followed the basic instructions in the dealer factory manual; you still have to take off the top of the airbox and a few other things. Even then, I had trouble moving my fingers for a few days - it's very cramped in there!
Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're NOT after you...
