Hey guys new to the forum.
Just quick question, I know this isn't the smartest idea but, I pull my handbrake up fully when moving at any kind of speeds 40km +
The car makes a loud thud and the car slows down but the wheels don't lock. It feels like the car is slowly braking.
Just wondering if this is a standard feature for safety or something.
Thanks in advance.
You don't deserve this car.
Umm ABS? The handbrake isn't suppose to lock up while the car is moving, not safe.
Hrmmm... Just trying to help diagnose the problem....
What happens when you throw it in reverse at those speeds ?
Do you also hear a loud bang ???
its not a problem, dont pull the handbrake on when in motion! its probably the brake pads slapping against the rotor.

"Torque Is What Breaks Shit"
the reason it is called a park brake is because you use it when you park the car.if it was to be used while driving it would be called im a stupid driver brake.if you want to test the hand/park brake, put it on and accelerate just a little to see if the car moves. if it does it needs adjusting.

Oh my that's just stupid I'm sorry but that's a great way to ruin your car. It's not a drift car that has a special hydraulic handbrake.
I can't stress this enough the handbrake on a ve is not designed to do this!!!!!!!!
The shape of the handbrake and how awkward it is to use normally should be enough to suggest that it's not designed for that.
Pull harder son!

When you have a moment where your brain isnt quite operating at its intended level and pull the handbrake up, 1700kgs of car grab hold of those floating pads and rip them in one direction till they hit the limit of travel which is the thud you hear.
Imagine youre standing on the side of the road and someone drives past at 60kph, grabs you and flings you into a bus stop. Its pretty much the same thing.

Please none of you drive near me if you sustain a total brake failure...
To the OP: The "handbrake" is an emergency brake designed to be used if there is a failure with your service brakes. The most common use of the emergency brake is whilst the vehicle is stationary and switched off to ensure there is no movement of the vehicle under its own weight.
Using the emergency brake whilst the vehicle is in motion can be dangerous if the lever is pulled to quickly as it will cause the rear wheels to lock up and remove control of the vehicle from the driver. The way the VE emergency brake comes on mimic's the safest way to bring the vehicle to a stop in the event the service brakes become non-functional. This is, a gradual engagement that avoids wheel lock up.
Welcome to the internet where people have opinions that you might not like
Does it lock up in the wet or in dirt roads?
The worst part about the VE handbreak is when you're driving from the passenger seat, it's on the wrong side of the console! Makes it a little awkward. I don't drive from the passenger seat any more, it was giving me a back cramp...
You do realise that driving from the passenger seat results in danger to manifold and your floor pan will eventually fall out?

Am I getting old or has there been a lot of really stupid posts lately???
Your getting old, just like me.
So how exactly do YOU stop your car in the event the foot brake fails in a Commodore?Originally Posted by wraith
