Unhappy Stock SV6, 20" Rims, Big issue!

    Hey Guys,

Im sorta new to this forum and was wondering if you guys could give me a few tips and some pointers?

I don't know much about cars let alone Holdens but I own a 2010 stock SV6 and I've recently put 20" rims on it about a month or so ago, as you can see in my profile picture that is the car that I am currently driving now,

My issue is that ever since I've put the new rims on my car has been making alot of noises as it brakes, and as I turn, and the steering wheel shakes when I brake from 40KM's downwards, it also makes a sort of scapping noise when I turn the steering wheel, it comes louder when its at full lock,

I know that issue is coming from my break disc's and pads but my main concern is the noise it makes when I break, my father said that its the wheel barrings, but I wasnt too sure, and also because I have the 20" Rims on there would that void the WHOLE new car warranty?

If you guys could help me out here that'd be great! I really need to fix this ASAP!

Have you checked that your rims are not slapping your calipers silly ?

We need a better picture of your rims mate.

    Cheers.

Did you fit the wheels yourself?
What exact wheels did you fit? (wheel and tyre sizes please)
Where did you source them? (ie yourself frome bay, or from retailer who sold you wheels with correct pcd/stud pattern and offset)
Does putting the stock wheels back on solve the problem?

My bet, it's not wheel bearings on a 2010 model car that's the issue.
Sounds like you've fitted incorrect wheels. Offset and or stud pattern incorrect, and wheel is fouling on the disc brakes. Bad.

    More info please.

No I didn't fit them myself, I took it to Bob Jane T Mart and they did it all for me, reason for getting new rims was because my stock tyres got slashed and I wanted new rims aswell as new tyres (Peer Pressure) my mates made me get bigger rims...

They're King Matrix Rims, 20" Kuhmo Tyres, I got them from Bob Jane T Mart, I don't know what pcd/stud pattern and offset is... So if you could tell me I'd be happy to find out for you...

I haven't tried to put the stock rims back on because I havent gotten around to buying 4 second hand 18" tyres,

All the noise seems to be coming from the front brakes, no noise from the back.

Here's the best advice you'll hear: If you have no idea, then don't risk it, pay for a professional to fix it correctly.

I understand that Mag00 I was wondering if I could take it to a Holden mechanic and see if I could get it done under the warranty, which is why I asked if getting the 20's would void my warranty...

Go back to Bob Jane, im sure they would know what the problem would be, and if it is that the rims don't fit for any reason you will be entitled to a refund as they can not sell you items that are not specified for that vehicle. As for taking it back to Holden, technically putting new "not Holden approved" rims on your car can void the warranty, not on the whole car itself,
But let's say you have damaged your brakes in any way, Holden will have nothing of it because you fitted un-approved rims.

This is all in your paperwork when you purchased the car, any modifications that are not Holden approved can void your warranty, if you go to local mechanic and he uses his own brand of oils and cheap parts, this will void your warranty, but give the same mechanic genuine parts and oils, warranty will be intact.

I've already taken it back to Bob Jane and they've told me that apparently its the wheel barrings and my breaks, I know the breaks are one of the issues but there is no way it could be the barrings cos it's a brand new car y'know?

They told me to get those two issues fixed and if there is still an issue to bring it back to them,

I know this may sound silly but I was wondering If I get HSV Holden Rims and throw them on my SV6 would that void the warranty?

What if the rims are some what damanged? Like VERY slightly damaged... Would I still be entitled to a refund?

You would be only entitled to a refund if there was a proven fault or they are not the correct design for your car. As for the HSV wheels, if you get your Holden Dealer to fit them then warranty in tact

could it be a stud problem along the lines of them actually being for a VZ and down and not a VE?? and the studs are too small on his car and under pressure the rims dont agree or something? just an idea

Have you jacked the car up and span a wheel to see if it fouls on anything? While your there check the pads and wheel bearings too..

If there was an issue with bearings or brakes they would have been noticeable prior to fitting the 20s.

Are they cheap nasty tyres? If so they will produce a lot of tyre noise which will amplify when you brake.

Brake shudder is cause by warped rotors but this would have been the case with the old rims on.

Scraping when turning full lock is probably the tyre contacting the inner wheel arch liner, look for rub marks to see where its hitting.

Best course of action is borrow some stock wheels and tyres and if all the issues disappear then it HAS to be the new wheels and tyres.
