    Arrow Installing an aftermarket screen.

Hey guys, I own a 2007 ve sv6 which is the one that doesn't have a screen in the head unit. I was curious to know if it is possible to have a screen put in? Or if anyone has done it?
    Thanks, steve.

You can buy a second hand headunit but you will need to get it reprogramed to work in your vehicle, or you can buy a brand new unit from JHP. I know that no limit electronics can reprogram second hand head units and the HVAC.

It is very easy to program the head unit yourself.
No need to purchase a ludicrously priced $2000 unit from JHP, or spend big $$$$ to get it programmed by Holden.

All you need to do it yourself is a $30 EEPROM programmer from eBay (That supports 24Cxxx EEPROMs), and a 3M SOP clip (Around $30 on ebay as well).
You do not need to desolder anything, and to top things off, if you do it yourself, you can eve change the startup screen and text colour to match your needs.
(I.E. Got Chev badging on your car ? Why not ave the Chev startup screen on the Radio/HVAC unit as well)....

The only thing you need to program to get the head unit to work in your car is to set the VIN number on the EEPROM to match your cars VIN Number.

Thats all there is to it... No magic, no BS.... Very very easy to do....

These Colour LCD Radio/HVAC units pop up on eBay all the time, and go for around $300-$500 depending on condition, and shipping.

    A bit of a side note :
You can enable the VIM using the above method as well.
Unfortunately I do not have the money to get the VIM function enabled on a unit to compare EEPROMs and work out the memory location to enable the function.
Another person has done this, and he sells his programming services for $200AU, which includes VIM, and Reverse Camera Enable.

I hope this helps, as I hate the idea of people getting ripped off by paying thousands of dollars for this stuff, when it really is very very easy to do yourself...

    Cheers

To give you an example of the above,
I bought a genuie E2 HSV Colour LCD Screen head unit on eBay for $250.
(The condition is not the best).

This is how I worked out most of the EEPROM locations for things like the startup screen, as well as setting the VIN number.
I got this deck to work in my Calais V.
So whenever I turn on the car, I get the HSV logo, with the text Clubsport R8 Build 1475.
The text colour on the head unit is red, like the SSV and HSV models. (Calais and Statesman/Carpice use blue text).

I then worked out how to modify these at will, so now I have the Caprice Holden Crest as the startup screen, and blue text, to make the car look a bit more luxurious / special.

These units also have a VGA input. (The res is less than 640x480, cant remember exactly what it is off the top of my head).
I am currently trying to work out how to enable this input via the SW Can (Slow GM LAN), as you need a Sat-Nav can gateway module to get this input to work..

    Cheers

Hey mate can be done, you just need to buy a fascia kit ($550) and an alpine or pionner head unit that will support it. I got the guys at street sound vision keilor park to do mine and it came up beautiful, only thing is make sure when you order the fascia you make sure its one for the head unit your gettting other wise steering wheel controls wont work.

I second that! I've done that, yet I had a factory screen! Well worth it, you just have to accept the loss of the nice dials/controls of the factory HVAC and put up with the buttons on the fascia kit.
Never argue with idiots. They will only bring you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
