Default 6sp Auto VE. SV6. Bad fuel economy issue

The wife and I have had our SV6 for 4 weeks now an we are averaging around 16l/100ks around town. We are both gentle drivers.

Just wondering if this is high or normal. Cheers

Should be waaaaaaaaaay less than that. Should be able to get 10-11 driving like a christian motorist. 16's is what I get in my SSV running e85 and driving like it was stolen.

What's the dash say your average speed is? You need to compare with someone who has a similar average speed.

    4 weeks??? Wait longer.

Give it time mate. Brand new engine needs to settle in a little. Fuel economy improve over time. Give it a few thousand more k's.
Mine took until about 10,000 before it started averaging single digits.

Yeah 14.2l/100 on E85 and 12.5l/100 on 98 around Canberra...also fairly enthusiastic to the speed limit. But as UFO said if it is new will settle in and economy will improve.

It's a used car done 55000ks. Running 98 octane. I'm getting an ORSSOM OTR and tune done on the 20th so hopefully that helps. Avrg speed is around high 20kmh if we drive it slightly hard every now and again it goes over the 16l/100 mark

That's pretty low... Does anyone else have an average that low? If so, what's your economy?

You people that say its way too much without asking further questions have NFI.

It really depends on the type of city driving you are doing!! What some people call city driving is not even close to what I do.
I live in sydney and do all of my travel in the stop start peak hours and average around 16L in my VE SV6 auto.
I get the same fuel figures from my 2007 VZ V6 commodore.

To the OP what sort of city driving are you doing?? My average speed for the city driving I am doing is around 26-30kmh.

That's a very low average speed which I feel may be your problem. Best bet is to take it out on the highway for a run . This will let you know straight away if there's a prob with it's fuel consumption .

My 2010 sv6 uses around 13L with similar average speed (around 25km/h)

I do give it a bit at times though...

Check your air filter, tyres, and run a bottle of good petrol system cleaner (i.e. Liqui Moly)

    My MY10 sv6 gets about 13L at around 30-35kmph. It's done about 63,000km.

Yea I'm in Sydney too, but still get a pretty good run with traffic every now and again. I've moved the intake and tune to this Monday so hopefully I see an improvement after that. The 02 sensor had set off an error code in the car in the first week of owning it. Holden did a quick fix and just cleaned it up as it was still under warranty. Maybe this is has something to do with it.

My engine is stock and I'm making 8.9L... But my average spd is about ~90 kph - all highway mostly 110kph. Chuck my parent's caravan on and haul that to the city and the double digits come back.. lol.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. Have you had a decent wheel alignment (and balance for that matter) done since buying the car?

You mention it's second hand so how often was the alignment checked?

A band wheel alignment will definitely cause worse fuel consumption...

Nobodys mentioned it because a wheel alignment thats far out enough to cause bad fuel economy would be shredding tyres in no time.

This being the case the wheel alignment being the cause is very unlikely.
