I live in Adelaide and want to get a decent Cat back exhaust on my 2010 VESSV (AFM). Im concerned with all the talk about the "droning" issue with the AFM V8's. I can get a 2.5inch Stainless catback system done relatively priced from a friend but I dont feel confident with the AFM issue (as he has done his 2011 SS sportswagon but had AFM disabled). Anyone know a good place to go? (Id prefer to leave AFM on incase of warranty issue down the track!)
Give KPM Motorsport a call. I'm sure they'd be happy to discuss your requirements. Their exhausts are guaranteed not to drone.
No done from my full 2.5" KPM system either.
If it drones after fitting, take it back and they fix it.
But, it probably has resonance, which is a fancy way of saying drone
Regardless, i was rapt with my KPM until i chucked a cam in. Now it sounds like a heaps of pigeons taking off when i start it up.
Thats unfortunant that that happened. Could you change to different specs or brands of cam?
I've had my cam fitted by KPM, and I've got to say it hasn't made it drone. Certainly no annoying noise at any speed cruise, be it highway in 6th at 100kmph, nor in 5th at 60kmph nor putting along at 50kmph in 4th.
I would suggest getting AFM disabled if your putting on any exhaust. All Gen IV's Ive seen on Silverados or Tahoes with aftermarket exhaust and AFM sound just terrible when its activated.
Yeah stealth II. KPM are developing new mufflers to sort the problem but they're still a few months away. Will stay with them until it's released and see how they go before i commit to anything else.
i also have the kpm 2.5" system with the vcm 7 cam its sounds like shit at idle , kpm have seen it (late last year) and there fix was to go to the 3" system , which im not happy to do as previously had the 3" pre slc system and for me it was too loud .
will be interesting to see what the new mufflers sell for and if there gauranteed to eliminate the flutter , as i would be pissed if i spent more cash to still have the issue as there systems arent cheap in the first place
Ok - slightly different motor but in my personal experience.
Pacemaker 2 1/2" system sounded excellent on an otherwise stock car. Pacemaker 2 1/2" system + OTR + mild cam sounds awesome. Zero drone what so ever.
Reaper
I have full Pacemaker headers, cats and 2.5" cat-back on my VE now trying it out and it's horrible compared to my KPM. It sounds good at idle but everything else sounds average. It's very droney around the normal VE drone rev range of 1,800-1,900RPM. This is with an aftermarket cam (219/224) and Duspeed OTR.
Anybody heard a Hitech cat back yet?
Has any one tried these
