Im loading pics of todays efforts , fitted a car kit to a Calais and couldnt resist stripping every panel I could in the search for knowledge !

I have no idea I thought it was kind of interesting but , didnt check why , maybe the tweeter is 2ohm and there seriesed , dunno.

one would get a little more power out of a stock unit using 2ohm speaker as opposed to 4ohm yes? maybe its an "upgrade" for the sound system to get more sound out of it for cheap.
If the system is designed around a 4 ohm load then there not going to just chuck in 2 ohm speakers trying to get more out of it.
The deck would overheat and turn off and eventually blow up.
They would be maximised in every model.
I am unsure if the Omega has 2 ohm aswell , will check next time I get 1.
The doors are easy to get off.

interesting pic's mate, good work
Whats your personal opinion on interior quality mate? Compared to the VZ?
Alot more pieces just clip in instead of being screwed in , they feel alot more flowing and I like the shape better but in 10 years time after being played with a few times there going to bits falling off and rattles everywhere I think.
There very easy to pull apart and work on though.
I really want to get 1 to bomb a big stereo in now just so I can sa I have !
Also be nice to be the first![]()

Yeah, I agree. They must run the 2 x 2ohm in series. That would also explain the claimed "11 speaker stereo system" in the Calais and SSV.
The quality of the speakers looks to be an improvement over the VY/VZ but still wouldn't cut it IMO. I'll be replacing the speakers when I get mine.
KAL SPL - did you manage to see if the stock head unit has RCA outs?
The stereo in the VE SS is very ordinary.. Only 80 Watts. Im going to sort that sH#$ out! Thanks for the pics..
Yeah but that doesn't matter too much as long as there is RCA pre-outs on the back of the head unit. That way it would be easy to run an amp and better quality speakers, whilst still keeping the factory head unit.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on the RCA outs - it's an important issue for me...
already pulling your new car apart matewon't you start voiding your warranty

Hey KAL SPL,
nice pics, on your first pic it shows the side of the head unit with what I assume is the DVD input on the top black connector- do you know if thats what it is?
I'm looking at hooking up a video input on my SS-V and mine has no such connector but I'm guessing this is most likely a good starting point.
Any idea?
Mmmmm SSV *drools*
...so where's some pix of your car?![]()
Only had it for 2 weeks and still enjoying the buzz.
I'll get some pics soon but I chose the ignition, with ignition trim and seats...looks awesome! looks just like the brochure but better Ha!
Your silver SS looks very tidy!
Excuse my ignorance - what are the 2 cables with a yellow tip and round ball?
From what i heard from a VE SS owner in the forum they dont have RCA's, also sux how the heater control and stereo are the one unit. Heres the post
Sorry guys been busy fitting tranny to my Calais for burnout comp.
4 days of driving for 3 minute burnout . . .
Yeah the cables are the door lock and handle.
The black plug Im going to assume is for the DVD overhead factory fitted Calais screen.
I didnt go as far as removing plugs and deck but Im assuming what you see is all that olds it in , also the aerial plug in the other side of the deck.
When get someone willing to let me have free reign on 1 I will post more details ,this car was brand new undelivered from Holden dealer here , they have great trust in me and I know my cars so there is no risk to new car warranty.
I get paid to do this and make a good livig from it.

Guys - just to elaborate on the speaker impedance thing....
Calais even from VY have had the "premium" sound system - the H/U looks the same, but has different power amp chips suitable for 2 ohm loads. (the standard system is designed for 4 ohm)
The tweeter also being 2 ohm doesn't add the impedances in series, the tweeters have an additional component which only allows high frequency energy to the tweeter itself, and is simply placed across the bass/mid speaker - ie, in parallel. The whole reason for going 2 ohm is that you can push more power into it at the same voltage, although it does cost just a little in speaker efficiency. (higher impedance speakers tend to be more efficient)
Hmmm - Davey - might have to organise a VE as a "guinea pig" for my line out mod.....(in fact, I reckon it would be EASY - probably use the same setup, certainly the circuits themselves anyhow....)
Cheerz!
PS - Nice pics KAL - thanx!![]()
