Hey guys, anyone got some info to share.........looking for costing to have the satnav fitted to the Calais centre console.
I have been quoted $2600 plus fitting by the dealer workshop, ( seems steep)
I was also told that they're almost impossible to get. Supposedly Holden just cant get supply...........
Feedback would be good, who has the genuine satnav in car and what do you think of it ????
Cheers Rogues
yes they are hard to get most dealerships are on backorder and a long time waiting list
most ppl are going aftermarket now like tomtom navman and the new pioneer ones
2600 isnt steep for the holden setup
personally i wouldnt pay it for a street directory
i got it on my SSV from factory and love it
there are some updates coming up to fix some of the bugs but it was well worth the spend for an integrated sat nav system
when buying new it was $2000 i think and yeah the dealer will charge more as there is more work to do after the car is built as opposed to being done on the production line
$2200 is a quote i got from youngs holden in geraldton and they do a good job too but obviously abit of a drive to get there 430kms hehe
Oh and no wait time either book it in and it gets done within the week
Save yourself a WHOLE lot of money mate. Get a Tom Tom or something... For around $500 you get a MUCH BETTER SYSTEM than the factory Holden one, it mounts in a much safer position (than having to look down to the head unit in the car, taking your eyes off the road), can be removed and used as a hand held sat nav for when you're walking around a city, AND you can use it in ANY car (if you're travelling with someone else for example).
I honestly can't understand why people are spending more than $2000 on the Holden factory option.
because its integrated into the car and stereo unit.
it has a larger display than tom tom or whatevers
increases resale value
doesnt have power cables running over and on dash etc like tom tom or whatevers
for the $2000 price tag when you buy the car new it is on par to the same system in other cars eg: toyota, ford, etc
1. Yes it is integrated but I don't see any advantage in that.
2. True. The TomTom is more than big enough for me though.
3. You sure about that one? Maybe by a small amount but it's crazy to spend $2k extra so that your resale goes up by a few hundred.
4. I do agree on that one - the TomTom cable is annoying.
5. On the other hand the portable units available that are just as good (or better) for 1/4 - 1/2 the price.
Have used quite a few satnavs now and still think the TomTom wins hands down.

I'm interested in getting the optional Holden sat nav fitted but frankly not at the RRP's quoted. However, it's hard to judge what price I would pay as I haven't seen it demonstrated - dealers only have the brochures and there are a lot of poor quality satnavs on the market. What kind of quality and features does it have compared to say Tom Tom? Can other systems be fitted to the in-console display or does the existing electronics prevent that?
I haven't used the VE system but do have experience with the Toyota one that is in the Prado. For 99% of driving either will do the job exceptionally well. The aftermarket types do have a huge amount of resourses/hacks/addons available over the internet which are simply not available for the OEM versions. These include extra voices, places of interest (ie shell servo's, banks, coles/woolies supermarkets etc etc), locations of fixed speed cameras etc, mp3 playback, bluetooth integration. Most of the data is simply downloaded and then copied to the datacard (same as that in your digital camera) before you put it back into the unit.
The most important thing is to get the newest map you can. In Aus most of the maps come from sensis and thus the data is all the same however I have found some quirks in the navigator software that interprets the same data differently between models. As stated above, the TomTom seems to make the least amount of mistakes. That said, even the most un-reliable units these days only make mistakes very infrequently.

Thanks Reaper, that leaves a question as to whether the after-market addons and non-Holden systems can be retrofitted to the VE console.
And after 25 years driving with a directory, I have to decide why a navsat is suddenly essential!
Cheers.
Best solution by a ubd and study it before you go somewhere....lol save thousands haha
