    Question VE SV6 Tyre Wear

    Hey,

Anyone got anything better than 25,000 out of a set of 18" Bridgestones yet?

My Front tyres are stuffed (outer edge1" wide) at around 25,000. I spoke to my Holden service centre and asked if they had rotated and they swear they did..... Find it hard to believe they actually did rotate with the front outers edges so badly worn!

Did it have a PD wheel alignment or one since you've owned it?

    Cheers, Jeff.

I have just over 30,000 out of my 19's. The rears need changing soon but the fronts still have heaps left. All tyres seem to be wearing evenly - better than any other Commy I have had.

just over 26000 on the 19' and the rear might need a look in but the front are fine as well!

if its wearing on the outser edges then the TOE-IN is incorrect, should be 1mm toe in either side.
when the car has its pre delivery inspection it is suppose to be set to 2mm total toe in... so obviously it hasnt had its alignment

the only problem ive seen with VE's is the rear left wheel wearing out waaaaaay to fast. most cars come in at 15,000 and need the rear tyre replaced

Lol, VE's supposed to be better than a vs in terms of tire wear, I have no camber kit in my vs and my 17" tires just passed 35,000kms and another 5000 or so kms to go before they need replacing!

I bet you have some serious toe problems as it may not be aligned properly or not been rotated at the dealer.

I get my VE laser aligned once a month... 4 wheel rotation, balance pressure check and laser alignment

All for roughly $50. Worth it I reckon!

And here's a cool little product that actually monitors tire pressure and temperature ANY time. If your tyre pressures and temperatures vary greatly while driving along the highway for example, time for an alignment/balance/both :-)

Go And Get A Wheel Alignment Done And Get The Report, Then Take It Back To The Dealer And Ask For A) Refund For Alignment And B) New Tyres. Did This On 2 V Series And Paid For The Lot On Both Cars. These Were 17" And Got 25k And 18k Respective. They Are Suppose To Do A Wheel Alignment As Part Of The Dleivery Charge But Most Just Dive Down Road, Take Hands Off Wheel, If Goes Straight All Aok.

    Knobs!

I hate just leaving my car at a dealer knowing they're going to drive it at some point - especially since I know they won't take care on driveways/bumps etc (my car's lowered).

There really is no need for a "test drive" to be part of a service these days...

I disagree. While changing oil and filters etc is pretty simple, people make mistakes. A test drive is the only way to ensure the work done by the mechanic is correct. Id imagine you would be quite ****ed if you picked your car up, steered it home only to find the mechanics stuffed up? Its the Workshops responsibility to ensure the work is 100%, and a test drive is the only way.

i agree that some mechanics at dealers etc dont take enough care when driving lowered/modified cars etc, but a test drive is a very crucial part of servicing like what happens if they do ur brakes an they fail on you?

The Wheel Alignment Should Be Done As Part Of The "pre Delivery" I Mentioned Nothing About Services. Once You Have It Done You Should Be Right!!

Default Good tyre wear - 54000Km

Just thought I would add mine. Just went through the first set of tyres since new at 54000 on the VE SV6. To be fair, they should have been replaced about 50,000 or so.

I am definitely not soft on them, but I do keep a good line on the road. They were rotated once, and probably filled with air twice in their life, so again haven't really looked after them.

Have now got a set of Arenalin RE001 on the SV6, and have to say impressed so far, although still expensive. I remember the days when I could have got a set of wheels and tyres for that price (ok it was a Toyota Seca)

Interestingly the VZ (Executive), I managed to get 70,000km on the tyres.....

    Regards

    Bob

    hi everyone,
further to this subject of tyre wear, my ss-v (19") tyres have now done 30,000kms, and are scrubbed out on all inners... The rest of the tyre isn't too bad and I have rotated not long ago. If tyres were kept aligned should may have got up to 60k, altho now the best ill get is about 40k... and i do run past the wear indicators well and truly. the car still drives straight, suspension seems to bottom out on some shocking country roads which obviously doesnt help alignment..
has anyone had any success with a harder wearing tyre as bridgestone turanzas are a 140 treadwear..?

my V-Series VE had to get a rear wheel camber adjustment not long before i traded it. The first set of tyres on the rear lasted about 49,000 k's and the front where still in great condition.

Ok so i got another "alignment" done yesterday...

Got ripped off again, this time got the before and after readout of the angles, but inspection tells me they have not adjusted if at all...

The angles of camber were apparently right in between specs, only toe in was adjusted according to the read out..

Anyway, for a rough check of camber, i got a straight edge of steel to cross from top - bottom of tyre.. I parked car on level cement.. Checked tyres with bubble level.. The left side was slightly negative camber, the drivers side was negative also but much worse..

As I always thought the camber is far too negative so the figures are obviously false!

For a rough check i believe this is adequate... Ringing them up tomoz and going to ask them to fix and refund bloody hell i just want an honest alignment!..

Having my tyres worn down probably discourages them from doing it properly thinking ill never know.. bloody wheel no change alignments over it!

45,000 km out of my potenzas with another 2,000 or so left on them. Changed early because I somehow cracked a rim. I put on a new set of CSA stinger rims and Hankook Ventus ME01. I left the rims 18" inch due to the sh!tty QLD roads....

I have always found the Potenza RE050As wear early if you don't keep a LOT of air in them because of the variable tread depth. The inner and outer blocks have less depth and appear to wear early. Run them at 40-43psi and I get decent life out of them
