Do the Calais come with the 180kw or the 195kw Alloytec. I would have thought you might have made a little more with those mods and a tune?
Tuned to 98RON (Caltex Vortex) fuel.
Wish I'd done a run before I did anything to the car - oh well. I'm not complaining. I'm happy with the resultsNot too shabby for a V6. Still, I think next year I'll be upgrading to a Clubby :dunno:
Before (although not stock - this is with SS Inductions 'Growler' CAI, Pacemaker Headers, high flow cats and full 2.25 dual exhaust installed):

Calais are the 195kw Alloytec... Stock rwkw is estimated to be around 120 - 130 for this engine...
I have since realised I didn't actually have the right octane fuel in the car at the time (95RON not 98RON). When I get a chance I'll go back to the same dyno with Vortex98. The 275's on the rear also do bad things for the rwkw figures... If I put a set of Omega wheels/tyres on the rear it's be more of an improvement too.
After discussing it all witht the guys at Gentech, we think the true figure would be mid to high 150's. Maybe 160.
But I'm currently looking at some much racier mods - Vortec turbo, intercooler, manual tranny, different drive shaft and diff... I just can't deceide on doing all that or buying a new HSV. Decisions deceisions.
nice mags! suits the car well, how does it drive now after the tune?
mate what u've got there is a bloody good looking car....
Yeah - loving the rims. Same size rims and tyres (front and rear) as the Clubby has from the factory. I love the dish on the rears
Much more responsive - which to me is the most important improvement. Torque converter doesn't spoil the upshifts any more either. I love the improvement it's made for such little dollars!
Thanks mate!
I'm getting the Calais International's boot lip spoiler for it too. Pluse there's a very minor ding in the back (look closely above the top right corner of the number plate to the right of the Holden badge) so that'll get fixed at the same time. Also getting the front and rear bars re-sprayed to actually MATCH properly. Holden haven't a clue about matching paint on different surfaces. Thankfully I know an awesome spray painter.
Real fussy things but it's going to be in getting the boot lip spoiler painted and fitted so may as well get them done. Rear guards are getting rolled flat too so the as far as re-spraying goes, the only things not getting done are the roof, bonnet and front doors!I will be talking to them about doing them too - make it a real nice paint job then. Same colour with a very slight black pearl in it is something I've thought about.
Wow phat tires you got on the rears, how wide is the front tires??
275's on the rear and 245's on the front. Wheels and tyres are identical in size to the E-Series R8.
Lovely looking VE, and good power figure for a 6.
Keep up the good work.
hahaha chosen to move on with the ve v6? lol i think i'm gunna be buying one myself but i can't be anything other than negative. the alloytech seems to be an unresponsive dosile feeling engine to drive, its lack of torque sucks for the money spent on it.
when it first came out in 2004, upon doing some reasearch and reading etc i thought it was going to be an awesome donk. although its realability has been proven it leaves a huge gap in 6cyl performance. xr6t or even just xr6 n/a for the win. i have to have a ute for work, and due to vicroads p plate laws its gotta be a six. but i don't beleive in spending money on a depriciating asset you have no interest in, so i'm comtemplating buying a cheap vs v6 manual ute and waiting 4 years for the v8, then i won't have lost money with deprication on a ve, and will have that money to make a new v8 ute even quicker (in the long term, vicroads don't win out) after 4 years i will be able to jump into a twin turbo v8 or whatever
other option is to buy a falcon ute (yes the darkside, at least you get a ripper driveline combo) but that would mean a bf mrk2, and althought i like the falcon's, when it sell it, due to the new shape falcon's being out it will depreciate like crazy. anyway, end rant
good luck with selling the calais, awesome looking car. but yeah. definately go the gts or clubbie route, even a senator maybe.

Nah - Senator is too plain. GTS just a bit to pricey for my budget (want to stick with 2007/8 VE options). So manual VE Clubby R8 with full leather it is.
As for the V6. It gets up and boogies nicely and has a decent amount of torque since the mods and definitely since the tune. Just not the same as an 8 though. I get out of my 308 and into it and just have to have a daily V8 too
You can buy my Calais relatively cheaply... Add a Vortec turbo for $5k (pluss labor) and she'll scream!

Hi there,
Can you tell me what type of wheels are fitted to the Calais?
Cheers,
