Gas conversion advice
Hoping someone can shed some light on an issue my brother-inlaws having.
He recently purchased a 07 VE with the intention of towing a small camping trailer around OZ.
The dealer told him the car was ok to put on gas as this was a key factor in his decision.
Last week he took it to a few local gas installers and was told that the 3.6l engine was no good fro towing when on gas. Apparently they had seen piston failure in low k examples and were not keen to do them as they had faced accusations that the system itself was at fault.
Has anyone heard of this or has anyone done alot of towing with one on gas?
Cheers
Steve

what if he tries LIQUID injection, and avoid the standard SVI (sequential vapor injection) systems?

Mate the factory fitted gas motor produces 175kW of power in the VE.
The standard petrol V6 produces 180kW of power.
Have a look at the holden web site and I think you'll find the engines are set up a bit differently.
Having said that; here's a PDF document with some info:
http://www.holden.com.au/pdf/choosea...reTechData.pdf
I'd give Holden's a ring for more info

The petrol Alloytec and LPG Alloyec engines from Holden are the same, right down to the valve seats. The Holden system is an aftermarket, factory-backed system consisting of the IMPCO Sequent 56 SVI kit that is installed AFTER the engine is built. The Alloytec 3.6 engines (both standard and high-output versions) run fine on LPG but the requirement is for either SVI or LPLI. I would install a Flash Lube drip system if you're going with SVI for peace of mind. You will not notice the difference in power when towing, as the engine will be making about the same power (and even slightly higher torque at low rpm). Don't worry about Holden's "advice" about LPG conversions - they're simply trying to get you to buy their aftermarket setup, much like Ford and their E-gas offerings.
Regards,
Dave

The current standard V6 in a Holden Commodore produces 185kw (Omega and Berlina) or 195kw (SV6, Calais, Calais, Calais V, Statesman).

Wrong! Holdfast is correct in stating that the base V6 has 180kw. Refer to Holden website.

Pffft! Whatever - Don't really care as I've never had to look into it. There's no way I'd EVER buy an Omega or a Berlina!
The 195kw is also a STANDARD engine though...

I have a mate that just recently did a round oz trip and he said that most places in the outback will not even sell you their LP gas as they are keeping it for the locals.
He got in several arguments with these scum bags in NT and ended up being refused ANY FUEL at all.

The morale of that story - don't get into arguements with Service Station operators - particularly in the NT.

LPG is often rationed as there are issues with supply. We run out a few times a year because of it.
When supply is interrupted, gas is rationed with Hospitals taking first priority followed by businesses etc... Petrol stations are last.
We ran out last week because of this issue. It may have been a supply issue that the service stations in the NT were refusing the sale of LPG.

No there was no supply problem, the argument happened because they said they had no LP gas and as my mate was driving away a local started filling up with LP just some local ****y. He went back and they still said they had none .
Discrimination against tourists plain and simple. They are lucky it was not me because I would sue the scum bag as soon as I got home.
