Default Holden cuts the price of LPG systems

G'day all,

This may come as welcome news for anyone considering purchasing a new VE Commodore:

Quote:
Holden has cut the price of LPG powered Commodores in response to the continued high price of petrol.

Holden has cut the price of LPG powered Commodores in response to the continued high price of petrol.

The company said on Tuesday the $1,500 price cut would reduce the cost of the LPG system from $3,900 to $2,400 on a new Commodore sedan and from $4,900 to $3,400 on a Commodore ute.

That meant the extra cost of buying a dual-fuel Commodore would fall to as low as $400 after motorists received the $2,000 federal government rebate.

Based on current petrol and LPG prices and average driving habits, consumers could recoup that extra $400 in as little as four months.

GM Holden chairman and managing Director Mark Reuss said Holden had always been committed to providing vehicles that allowed Australian families to enjoy spacious, safe and comfortable motoring at a price within their reach.

"As rising petrol prices continue to put pressure on all motorists, LPG offers an affordable solution that is already widely available," Mr Reuss said.

"It gives motorists access to large car benefits at small car fuel costs."

"With this further incentive from Holden, and continuing support from the federal government through its LPG rebate scheme, Australians now have another cost-effective option available to them when choosing their next family or business vehicle."

Note that the Holden factory-backed LPG system is a sophisticated multi-point Sequential Vapour Injection (SVI) system as opposed to Ford's antiquated single-point venturi mixer system. SVI systems take full advantage of today's sequential petrol injection systems to deliver petrol-like performance on LPG. The Alloytec V6 engine only loses 5kW when running on LPG (175kW on LPG vs. 180kW on petrol) compared to Ford's huge performance hit with their dedicated system (156kW with dedicated LPG and 195kW with petrol). And then there's the problem of backfiring with the Ford system...

In Western Australia, these price cuts effectively mean that the LPG dual-fuel Omega and Berlina are $600 cheaper than equivalent petrol-only models arfter the State and Federal subsidies.

Regards,
Dave

Good on them for doing it, making LPG an option for more people buying a new car, and saving them money later on with running costs.
