Vibration after 20's put on
Hey guys,
Thought I would tap the wealth of knowledge here and ask if anyone has had any issues with vibrations after upgrading to 20's? and if so, what was the solution?
Ive had my 20's on and the tyre guys and my guys at work are scratching their heads at how to make the vibes go away.
I've had the tyres balanced, an alignment, checked tyre pressures and tomorrow we are rotating front to rear....any suggestions would much appreciated

When does the vibrations set in? certain speed or any speed? what size tyres you have fitted?

Most likely the balance hasn't been done properly. Also check wheel nuts are tight.

are the wheels hubcentric to the car/do they have plastic hub rings fitted to center the wheel?

Ah and also spacers are baaaaaad mmmk. If the wheels you want require spacers, choose different wheels.

if you're referring to my post, hub rings are completely different to hub spacers.
but yes, if you're using hub spacers, they most likely arent the hubcentric type, and will be putting the wheels off balance, and putting all the load on the studs, which isnt good at all on 20" rims.

I'm no expert on this but I got GMAX 19 inch rims for my VE SV6 and from the day I took the car home everytime I went on the freeway I got a vibration coming through the steering, always around the 90 to 110km mark.
I took it back to the large franchise I bought the rims from 3 times to have them re-balanced and it was still the same, then went to an independant and same thing still had vibration until I found someone who has his own workshop and as soon as i told him he said to me that they probably had not fitted "something I cant remember then name of" to the hub.
He showed me and they were like a round ring that sits on the hub of the wheel. He put them on, balanced the wheels again and presto, better planted and no vibration at any speed as my steering wheel always felt it needed small adjustments while driving.
Bimbo, if you are in Melbourne and want to give him a try I can pass on his details. He seems to know a fair bit about Commodores especially after seeing his VE Ute with 22 inch rims.

The tyres are 245/35 20s, the rims are VE GTS. The vibration seems to come in from about 80kms, I do mostly highway driving, so notice it quite a bit.
No spacers, no hub rings.
Off to another place for an alignment and balance today.
Thanks heaps guys
*sigh*
