Default Amp remote wire

Hi,

Does anyone know a good place to connect a remote wire for a amp in a VE?

You can get a little device that you splice into the speaker wires at the back of the H/U that detects when there is sound on the lines and sends the turn on voltage signal to the amp(s). This all happens instantly as soon as you start the car/turn the H/U on. I have one in mine and it works fine, turns my 2 amps on instantly every time.

The speaker wires are running from the HU to a REQ5 which is suppose to turn on when it picks up sound from the HU but I'm having trouble with it not turning on unless the sound is up reasonably high and also turns off if I turn the volume down a bit. Has to be above 12 on the HU which is sometimes too loud.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a REQ5?

joshtaylor87,
Do you have a brand or any other detail?

Thanks
Keith.

It's basically like a equelizer. With most standard head units now a days as you turn up the volume they lower the bass to protect the speakers and the REQ5 is able to fix this so that the bass doesn't reduce as the volume raises. It also really cleans up the sound.

That's correct but I'm asking if anyone knows of one that is easy to connect to.

G'day Keith, unfortunately I don't really have much info on the one I have as I had it installed with the rest of my audio gear into the VE. But I have found this one here which gives you a bit of information about them. That one isn't what I have but it's pretty much the same thing just a different brand.

Mine works great, you should be able to get something similar from a car audio specialist store, don't know if places like JB Hifi or Strathfield etc would have them.

Im having trouble with my audio if anyone can help, i brought a berlina wagon a while back with a sound system already installed a 400watt sony explode amp. a 10" sub, tweakers and 6" Speakers all connected, since then i installed a kenwood headunit (which gets power) a 2000watt amp, and 2 12" subs, but my amp isnt getting any power. I have tryed reconnecting the old amp and running it with just the speakers (no subs) but still no power. Any ideas? The power & Remote cable are both really thin (speaker like) cable which is what i think might be wrong, but if it powered the explode amp before, wouldnt it do it again? Any help would be great!!

OP- Use the ACC wire at the back of ign barrel

Milk and Juice Guy - Yes and no... trigger wire is usually quite small anyway.. as its only to activate a relay, however, if the power source isnt strong enough (amps and volts) it wont switch on.

Have you checked the source recently with a multimeter? is it a good 12v? (both trigger and mains)

aZk.

The Power (12V) is like extremely thin (like speaker wire) and i thort that would be a problem, but when I first got the wagon as I said it was already installed and working (the power cut out every now and then due to dodgy wire witch we fixed then it worked fine) then just a amp/sub swap & rewire and no power, multimeter reading was steady for trigger AND mains :|

yeah see the issue is the size of the wire.. a 2000W is gonna need at least an 8ga wire attaching it to mains man... a ****y 400W Sony amp would draw the poer of hopes and dreams only... time for a wire upgrade.
