G'Day All
Thought I'd finally post the car up, Ive been here long enough.
06 SSV
OTR, Pacemaker 1 3/4" 4>1 Headers, 100CPI cats and X-Force 3" Exhaust
3.7 Ratio Diff
Tex Z-Grip Clutch
Ported Heads
Cam - 232/233 @ .612 and all the other cam accessories
Genuine Camaro Wheels - 20x8 and 20x9
Harrop 'Monster' Brake kit - 356mm Slotted rotors F&R, 4 Pot Calipers F&R, Bendix Pads (Which I'll replace at service time cause they're rubbish IMO) Goodridge Braided lines and Penrite Dot 5 fluid.
King Springs rear, otherwise stock suspension.
DMS 40mm coilovers
Vacuum Tank
End Result? - 315RWKW, and a shit tin of torque.
I intend to give it a blat around a track and down the strip as soon as I have a weekend that is free when a track day is on, in the new years perhaps.
The Car as bought
Caliper in the box. Note the size of it compared to a CD.
Rotor in box - 356mm across.
Front Install Complete
After the brake install. There is about 3mm between the wheel and caliper.
During the Cam install.
When someone drove into the back of me.
New wheels on!
Front
Rear. Plenty of space between wheel and rotor, however, if loaded in the rear, the rear wheels will scrape the guards. So Im having them rolled soon.
Overall. Camaro 20", in midnight silver. They fitted on without any issue, and they are dirt cheap on E-Bay ladies and gents. I got the Idea from the US guys chucking them on the G8. Google it, they look awesome.
Future mods - (DMS Coilovers - Done) sway bars and bushes.
Harrop Supercharger or 402 Stroker kit.
Vinyl up parts of the trim - seems to be an easy way to give the interior an upgrade.
And of course, guard rolling (Done).
Cheers

Very nice ride mate, Liking all the mods done sofar especially those camaro wheels! Were they a straight foward fit?
Thanks mate. The Camaro wheels are sooooo worth it if your willing to go through a bit of effort getting them here. They bolted up no worries at all. The camaro is based on the ZETA RWD platform, derived from our Commodore, so the wheels have the same stud pattern and the correct wheel loading too. They are a slightly different offset - so they stick out abou 1.5cm front and rear. Its not an issure really unless you slam the rear end or have it heavily loaded. But ill be rolling the rear guards anyway. No point in having 5 seats if you cant use half of them.
Wonder if they would fit over hsv brakes hehe
Car looks crazy bud nice work![]()
NOW THE NEW PROUD OWNER OF A 2008 VE R8 CLUBBY WOO!!
Thanks guys. Im happy with the way its turned out. I reckon they would fit no worries. Theres so much space between Harrop caliper and wheel you can stick your hand in there
ahyeah nice id be guessin the harrop brakes would be bigger then the factory r8 clubby brakes??
NOW THE NEW PROUD OWNER OF A 2008 VE R8 CLUBBY WOO!!
i think a set of them painted black would be killer in my silver clubby tho haha if u dont mind me asking how much did they set u back?

The Harrops are 4 pot, and are 356mm vice the 362mm (i think) of the HSV items. The caliper is a tad smaller also.

Like this?
The wheels can be had in 3 styles - Chrome, Midnight Silver and one more i forget though. Ive got the midnight silver ie Shadow chrome. Prices range between $600-900. Depends on who you get them from, and how many people bid etc etc. I should mention this is on E-Bay, and there are literally 100 up for sale. Just make sure you look in E-Bay global or US. For whatever reason, people are buying Camaros, taking off these good wheels and fitting rubbish. But my win I suppose. Shipping was the thing that killed it - $500. That took about 3 weeks. I should point out I bought mine when the dollar was $1.08US, so buy while the AUD is good.
You'll need to run HSV sized tyres - 245 / 35 / 20 front and 275 / 30 / 20 rear. Tyre choice is up to you, but they aint cheap. On stock suspension, they should fit, however be prepared to roll your rear guards anyway. They *just* scrape mine with lowered springs, and even then i still need 2 people in the back for it to happen. It is a bit of work to get them here, paint them (in your case) and roll guards, but bloody hell - they look awesome and its worth it.
Finally, check they come with center caps. Mine came with chev badges in the center. I hate Chev badges on commodores, but I figured they are actual chev wheels so I left them there. You can get other designs cheaply on flea bay if a chev badge isnt your thing. A pontiac one is a good start if your stuck.

Looks great, brakes and wheels really set her off.
Well done.
Cheers.

Update
DMS Coilovers have now been installed, just before a Track Day at Mallala. I simply put a full tank of fuel, spare SSV wheels and had a service beforehand and drove there, absolutely thrashed it - (6500rpm changes all day) then drove home.
Car loved it, Brakes worked a treat - good work Mr Harrop - and didnt have any major breakages. Only issue was an accidental 4 wheel drift around the corner at the end of the main straight - right over the ripple strip. This has bent/cracked something in the exhaust as it rattles like a bitch now and I need a wheel alignment.
Next upgrades will be aluminium power steering resevoir (the stock one leaks), power steering cooler, new tyres and then some interior colour customisation.

Having fun mate. Nice ride

^^ Thanks mate, yea def having a ball with it.
Good to see some else Driving these how their meant to be driven. Enjoy
Hey mate car is coming along nicely,
A question for you, the rotors in your photos look like the slots are facing the wrong way. Can't tell for certain, but I'm under the impression the the slot needs to curved outwards in the direction of wheel travel.
I could be wrong, someone on here should know for sure.
Edit, I looked it up and as long as the vane internally run inside out towards the rear if the car, the slots on the visible side of the rotor can run in either direction.

Is this it?
mate whats the DMS coilovers like?? ive been thinking about getting either these or bilstein coilovers for a while now.. also if your thinking about doing some whiteline sway bars, definitly go for it! they make a big improvement in handling.
Hey all
Thanks for the interest. I figure if you're going to buy a V8, bloody drive it like one - on a track of course. Track days are so much fun and I recommend you do one when able. Im just spewin its taken me 2 years to have time off when ones been on!

Yep, exactly right. I thought the same thing when I bought them. Im not sure of the benefits on the direction of the slot - HSV has theirs one way, Harrop another. But they work a treat. Given my time again, I would simply go all out and get the 6 pot harrops straight away.
DMS were not really a big improvement BUT - for a few good reasons.mate whats the DMS coilovers like?? ive been thinking about getting either these or bilstein coilovers for a while now.. also if your thinking about doing some whiteline sway bars, definitly go for it! they make a big improvement in handling.
1 - I purchased the DMS 40mm coilovers, (bought them from GSL Rallysport during one of their happy hours) and the quote for install + all the bushes and sway bars would have cost a fortune. Unfortunately my financial outlook has changed a tad so I've just done the coilovers. As such, putting such a high end coilover without doing the rest of the suspension is kind of wasting them a bit.
2 - I put them on the day before the track, and set them to half stiffness. As it was my first track day, I didnt stuff around with them - was more worried about walls and such - so they were a bit soft, similar to stock suspension. So now I've wound them up tp 25/30 and thats where it should have been from the start, but this is how you learn.
Given my time again, I would still purchase them. They are really good, pricey - but you get what you pay for. If I get the cash, Sway bars and bushes will go on for sure.
Also had a big F..K off vacuum tank installed. Big cam, lost vacuum, so it was put where the standard air box used to be. I'll chuck up some more piccies tomorrow.
Cheers

Update
Car was injured slightly on the track day. Needs brake fluid, power steering resevoir, power steering cooler, a service, and some looking into of the front suspension - it pulls viciously to the left now.
Heres an engine bay pic - the new power steering resevoir will be aluminium - more shiny thing in the engine bay:-)
