Transmission Problem?

Hey all,

Every time i take off (especially when she's cold) the car seems to take a second or so to get into gear and the engine revs. It then gets into gear and makes a nasty thud. I've added transmission fluid to it and that fixes the problem for a little while, even though there's already enough in there.

Anyone got any ideas on whats goin on?

sounds like the bands are slipping. i dont know what it costs to have the box done on a 6cyl. the quote on my trimatic was about $1400.
