hey guys
i've heard a rumor that the last of the VL Walky's were sold without the bodykit. word has it they couldn't sell them so the kit was removed and sold with the standard body, still HSV build number twin throttle body etc. just no kit
first ive ever heard of it, would be pointless, the whole reason i would want one is for the outrageous body kit, it makes the walky what it is!
there were a few walkys sold with the calais front from dealers and i believe a few late one were sold with out the spoiler

yeah ive heard of this a few years ago but dont remember what everyone said
There is an article in Australian Muscle Car magazine a few years ago and it mentioned this.
It was never officially a Walky anyway, it was a VL SS Group A SV but that's irrelevent. There were 500 originally made, these sold out so they decided to make another 250, but with the imminent release of the VN, sales dropped off because people were waiting to see what the VN was like. If you stripped the body kit off a Walky, then it isn't really a Walky anymore is it?
I'd be interested to know more about this as well.
Are you not getting it confused with the Calais SV88?
My understanding on the matter is that several buyers wanted the performance but with out the flares etc and optioned the car as such. It was common with the old HDT cars too at the time - especially the VK Directors and VH/VC cars. The VK/VL HDT's had very few options (wheel color was one that I know of on the VK GPA).

Also to add to that, back in the day you could order just about any configuration of available options. Maybe dealers ordered the cars minus the kit but didn't actually sell them as a Walky.
its true. some were sold without parts of the body kit.
Its in Issue 1 of AMC, pages 40 - 46.
Don't have a scanner on me but I quote Joe Kenwright:
"The lower section of the aero kit was supplied in boxes as they contravened minimum ground clearance requirements for registration".
"There were a handful of official Group A sleepers featuring stock VL Calais exteriors and selected Group A body parts over full-house Group A mechanicals"
As above, there still a genuine VL Group A SS, when they were new they got the bodykit in boxes (some even have the WHOLE kit in boxes, and had Calais door moulds).
All 500 of the first batch were identical tho (as per group A rules), the last 250 they could do what they wanted with them.

Ahhh.... Not quite equal. The original body kit covered the last window next to the "C" pillar but CAMS (or whoever it was that administered the homologation) knocked it on the head and forced a small change to open the window. This happened part way thru the initial build and some early ones have the original kit.

The thing with the Walkys is they weren't apreciated how cool they were untill you couldn't buy them any more.
We had 2 as our wedding cars going back 13 odd years ago, much cooler than the normal white Ford LTDs that most people had..
