    Default tail light tinting

Hi i was wondering where you get the paint you use for tinting your taillights? can you get it from supercheap? or somewhere like that?
also i saw a vl with tinted headlights they were fairly dark, almost pitch black, is this legal?

Tecniqually, theres no law that states you can't have tinted lights (as it would say it on the defect notice) but its more to do with not allowing enough light out.

Supercheap will sell it, but its about $15 a can (bit of a rip if you ask me).

Best be would be to get headlight covers, and tint them, then you can remove them if driving at night.

in vic they say if your headlights are busted then you are should onyl drive it during the day until they are fixed, they say that to drive at night you must have fully functioning headlights so tinting them will void the 'fully functioning' part. from this i would assume its ok during the day. i dont know about blinkers - i would assume they have to be visible like the tail lights at all times.

theres distances and light requirements that a car has to meet, i know for the tail lights, of commodores,, for driving lights, you must have at least one light on either side, give a red glow, from 400metres away. Same with brake lights, as well as 3rd mount brakes light, if fitted from factory.

i don't know the headlight ones, or the indicators, but there the same, as long as they let out certtian light, they're legal

wouldnt look so good if some hero shot up your arse because they couldnt see your brake lights though....(laws give bad drivers an excuse to get out of taking responsibility)

i tinted my tail lights a while ago....there heaps dark, looks pitch black...but the light still comes threw basiclly the same, not much difference. I been pulled over once and just got warned about them. If u gonna tint them, give it a coat of gloss or clear laquer afterwards, gives it a nice dark and glossy look.

At night time the light nearly comes through the same, But have you seen the brake lights at day time?

I followed a guy with them not too long ago, couldn't see a thing.

I do mine with one of those big industrial black markers so its waterproof but can be made lighter if a problem comes up. they have to be touched up everymonth or so but it only takes a few min and looks good. i only run the texta across the raised lines. heres a pic, i havnt done them in a while and they let light thru day and night but i think they still look good.
